Subwoofer/amp questions
Ok well im not modding my car anymore.. i sold off what i hadnt yet installed. However, im just gonna drop a nice system in it in the meantime. I can always move my system to my new car, right? yehh...
The subs i got... (2 of them, just ordered 'em!)
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...odel=SWR-1242D
I played around with all kinds of setups in the store and the alpines were what appealed to me most. Really loved these subs.. no suprise considering i have R's in the rear deck and S's in the front doors already...
--> THE PROBLEM IS, im an audio retard so what kind of amp should i get to go well with these subs? Needs to be at least 1000w right? jeez i dunno. I need a 4 channel one apparently. Preferably find it for me on here ( http://www.etronics.com/mysearchcat....re=&catid=8042 ) the prices are amazing. I like the one that glows colors too woohoo!! =D lol.
I have a friend around here that will construct a decent box for me for now.. i would like something custom eventually but thats for later..
Also am i gonna have to worry about the lights fading a lot with these? What should i do? Get a high output amp and red top or something? I dont want to if i dont have to. (for now)
Thanks for being patient with my audio negligence

i have 2 alpine type r 12" 4ohm( so ya wat u have) wired up in parallel so its a 1 ohm load, with http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status=
and a 3 farad cap and it sounds great and the the power series is really under rated...its rated at 1000 at 1 ohm but the pvc says its 1600 at 1 ohm so it runs them just fine...i havnt even had the fan kick in on it, it kicks in at like 60-70 degrees celcius i think...so thats just my opinon but that kenwood is pretty nice to

personally I would suggest goin to a Memphis Dealer and get a Memphis 1000 watt amp they arent that expensive. then u actually get a warranty on the product u buy. I may be Biast since I'm a MECP tech on buyin things off the internet.

sweetnlow is right
personally i'm not a big fan of kenwood... they're kinda like the kia of amps
if you want something good that's in between the price of the kenwood and the memphis you may want to consider phoenix gold or alpine
one thing to keep in mind... low end amps always claim higher wattage but have a higher distortion rating... so you never actually use the power

I had the same opinion of Kenwood in the past. I bought my KAC-729 600W about 5 years ago and after she's seen 4 cars, moisture, water then ice in the trunk, over power, weak subs, dents and scratches, it still plays like a charm. That's probly the best buy I ever did.
I blown two cerwin vega 12 inches with that amp that were rathed at 600W peak that the guy at the store told me it was the right thing to buy. (that's within a year, one has been repared and blew again) After those I went for a Kenwood 12 inch that was on sale (300 W RMS, 1000 peak) and the guy told me it was too big for the amp. Have it for 2 years and a half and no problem so far, better quality than before, clear bass.
All around ppl keeps telling me that Kenwood is build tough and can handle a lot. I guess next time I have to buy audio things, I'll consider Kenwood again. But I think its just a question of taste, every brands have different class of product.

since youre gettin alpine subs, try to see what alpine has in the way of amps.. because typically i have found that if a company makes a subwoofer, they make an amp to go with it (typically)

Wow...
I would of taken the previous advice and looked into a Hifonics amp of sorts. Directed even...
Kenwood. Bose. Sony. Who is next? Old popular names living off the past.
You have 2 dual 4 Ohm subs. Your wiring options are this:
Mono:
1 Ohm or 4 Ohm
2 Channels:
2 Ohm or 8 Ohm
Or of course, 4 channels @ 4 Ohms.
If you are trying to power the R's @ 4 Ohm, get your purse out.
I would highly advise looking into a better brand amp, even if it is $50ish or so more than the Kenwood.

Have you looked for a JBL BP1200.1?
It would do you wonders.
Directed has a 1200 wrms amp also.
Theres plenty of shops out there.
www.ikesound.com
www.sonicelectronics.com
www.mmxpress.com
sheesh how many more legit ones. Just watch out for e bay punks like "indo audio"...
Actually E bay used would be a good place to look...
