Steering Wheel Replacement

Tools Required

J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
J 42120 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
Removal Procedure
  1.
Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
Remove the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.

Remove the steering wheel nut (1).

Notice: When removing the steering wheel with the specified steering wheel puller and the steering wheel adapter legs, ensure that the left leg tab is down and the right leg tab is up. This will prevent the steering wheel and puller from binding and will prevent damage to the steering column's integrity.

Remove the steering wheel using J 1859-A (1) and J 42120 (2).
Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) from the column.

Route the electrical connectors (4) through the steering wheel opening.
  2. Remove the steering wheel (2) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure

  1.
Route the electrical connectors (4) through the steering wheel opening.
Connect the electrical connector (4) to the steering column (3).
Install the steering wheel on the steering column (3). Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the steering wheel nut (1) on the steering column (3).
    Tighten
Tighten the nut to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).

Install the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  2. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.

I doubt it. When I took mine off, I tried a couple different kinds of pullers and it took an extreme amount of cranking on them to pop that sucker off. The hardest part about the pullers is getting them to stay on the wheel. The arms kept sliding off when I cranked on the bolt.
