A/C Compressor kits?
I searched and couldn't find anything on where to buy online an A/C Compressor Kit for a '99 3400. Anybody? My mechanic told me that it would cost $800-$1000 for the kit, taxes, and labor. Does that sound right? He said he can get the kit for $350. Any help would be appriciated.

Should fit. I would look at autozone or advance's websites to determine if they will cross over onto the alero.
Also I would consider going to a junk yard for these parts. You gotta buy the recharge stuff anyhow, might as well save on the parts themselves. Just make sure to buy an oring kit and replace them all while doing it. ORing kits are under $10.

The kit is a/c accumulator (Filtering unit that collects water), expansion valve/orific tube, hvac compressor, and/or filter (depending on vehicle). The reason that most shop including myself do this is because the manufacturer will not warranty the compressor if you don't change those unit at the same time, with a hvac system flush.

I paid $802 for mine. My compressor had a hole in it
That price sounds about right

Compressors are a lot cheaper for these cars now. I do wonder if the aftermarket compressors have the same leaking at the seam issues though.

The cheap $113 shipped Compressor Works made in Korea from eBay seller cnsmotors seems to be working fine so far. I've only been driving with it installed for 2 weeks so far, but I haven't noticed any loss in cooling yet (which I would have by now) so I think that it's either not leaking or leaking a lot less, but it will probably take a whole month or so to be 100% positive on that. Only thing I didn't like about this new compressor was the plastic pulley. Went ahead and bought another compressor to fix the A/C on another car already.
