More Seafoam Results
This was on a Taurus, not an Alero, but this is the first time I've used seafoam and it really works. I used to think it was a gimmick.
I got a used Taurus for cheap and it didn't want to start while cold and was generally running badly. I borrowed a scan tool at autozone and was getting back codes for intake manifold control valves stuck, idle air control valve not working and mass airflow sensor. So I went down to the junkyard yesterday to buy all these parts and they closed 5 minutes before I got there.
Did some more research on the interwebs, and found that most of this stuff might be cleanable. So I bought a can of seafoam and put it all through the intake parts and the intake.
After the smoke cleared and driving around for a few hours, it runs great now and all the codes are gone after a fresh scan on the computer.
Seafoam works!

I know, I know. But many products actually are snake oil, so my skepticism was based on real life experience

They've never heard of it because the auto parts stores don't sell it. Its one of those things you have to goto the dealer for.

x2 on the gm top engine cleaner. I had a head off and tried carb cleaner, some other shit, and the gm stuff. The other 2 sat there like water, and the GM stuff was dissolving the carbon immediately. You have to get the engine hot, then suck the gm TEC through a vacuum like. The throttle will need to be held open. When the can is about gone, shut the throttle and let the engine die. 10 min later, crank it over till it starts. Then drive around at varying load till it runs smooth and stops blinding everyone behind you Yes, major smoke show from the GM top engine cleaner. The heat will dissolve the carbon even better. You can run it in your gas to clean injectors as well.

Put this in my 2002 GLS. Smoked like a freight train and pissed off my neighbor (who cares?). Let it idle, with the occiasional snap of the throttle until the smoking stopped, and MAN what a difference!!! Its like I just dropped a brand new motor in it! So good, I did the wifes Kia Sportage with the same results! Higly recommend!
