Not Cold A/C
I just recharged my a/c and it definitely started working again, but it doesn't get very cold at all. its like 48-55F at the most. its cooler then the air, but definitely not the icy cold it was when i got the car.
any got any ideas why? i recharged with the proper stuff. (r132a?)

I though it was r-134a
anyways
Check your line pressure to make sure you are getting the full freone going. Maybe the compressor?

Look at ur compressor.. is it all nasty looking? That means its leaking and you need a new compressor. if not, then check ur lines. You can add in some dye and it'll show out where it leaks from the o-rings/connections.
I just changed my compressor last yr. I had it recharged and the 3 days later, it was empty.

its been holding the coolant for a month or so now... so its not leaking (quickly at least) where is the compressor?... so i know where i'm looking...
and the coolant i put in, had dye in it, so it should be easier to locate any leaks...

lol..
looking directly at the front of the car.. the compressor is the giant device with a pulley on it.. located on the bottom front of the engine- below the water pump.
EDIT: Its RIGHT next to the blue oil filter- that bottom front pulley

Did you put enough in? Do you know what your low-side pressure is?

do you feel the a/c activate when you press the A/C button? but still doesnt blow cold?
if so somethign similar happened to me and it turned out to be a master relay under the hood fusebox that controlled the a/c

How to recharge you A/C.
First thing you have to do is discharge the pressurized air that is in the system still prior to refill the system.
Once you have completed letting the pressure out from the low side, you will start your car with the a/c on max, go under the hood and fill the system according to specs.
When you start filling the a/c you want to open the can and flip up side down so that the liquid goes in the system. Run car for about 5 minutes with a/c full blast.
Remember that if the system is too low the a/c wont work properly and if it is too full it wont either and damage can occur.
Filling your A/C after the system have been disconnected......
The first thing you want to do is double check that all your connections are connected properly and make sure you install the washers and seals that go to the system.
You will need 1 can of peg oil and 2 cans of r134.
steps are same as above, but first you add the oil first and the the freon.
this is the only time that you will have to add the oil, only if you disconnect the system.
Remember the cans are only 12oz and there is 16oz to a pound, our cars take 1.5 pound to fill and you can get away with 3 can of r134.

maybe i just didn't use enough.... i only used one can to recharge, and it was completely dead... hmm. didn't know i needed two.
i'll check for leaks and what not as soon as i get some free time...

Didn't you buy a recharge kit that comes with the gauge. Should tell you when you have the correct amount in it. Thats what I bought and the hardest thing for me was finding the damn connection in the back...lol

I guess its got to be working cause he said it just isn't getting ice cold, after
I recharged mine it is doing the same thing but I figured it was just because of my blow motor resistor not being replaced yet.
I'm pretty much going to wait until it totally craps out

the compressor wasn't working at all... but after i recharged it, it started kicking on. So it was just too low to work.
and the gauge the kit came with showed that the pressure was in the green when i was done...
so i guess that means i have a seal leaking somewhere?
and for everyone else, if you adjust the air temp on the HVAC can you get slightly cold air all the time? even with the vents off?

The pressure isn't always supposed to be in the green. It depends on the outside temperature.

also forgot to add that if the compresor clutch is stuck wich happens alot you can add a little bit of wd40 behind the clutch and tap it a bit and it should release just about right away.
I see alot of people having to buy new compresors cause they think theirs is bad, ive fix so many of them too is not even funny how often their clutch gets stuck. Every fall when you winterize your car make sure you put wd40 behind the clutch so that when spring comes your compresor works properly.
Cherriton put 3 cans of the 12oz r134 and you will be fine for 4 years or so

Bringing this thread back to life.... Needing to check my AC system since it's barely getting cold... Not really even cool... I'd like to do it myself, but not sure where I need to connect the cans too... Is it the line that runs right behind the alternator (3400 V6 engine) with the black cap??? I'm not sure where I need to hook it up and how to go about doing this. I take it I need 3 cans for the 134a, and I'll be checking the compressor. Where is this clutch GA_turbo is talking about? I'd really like to avoid spending a couple hundred dollars to refill it when I can do it myself for less. lol
