Well, how loud do you want it? Is it for performance or just sound?
I got a magnaflow, cuz once the headers are on, sounds pretty good. Not too loud (ie flowmaster) and not too quiet (ie borla). Figured it was a good compromise.

I just got my custom catback done today. I have a 3400 with a cold air intake. i went to a performance exhaust shop. I ended up leaving the cat with the stock resonator behind it. they used two and a quarter inch piping and put on a Reactive muffler. It sounds really good. It has a nice deep tone and is not too loud, but loud enough to show off. A flowmaster would be way to loud. either the reactive or the magnaflow are perfect and about the same price. hope this helps....feel free to ask any questions

Jackal since i installed the headers and had the highflow cat put on, its alot louder now, and i have the high end rasp now, but in 2 weeks i go to an 80 series so i'm hoping that will cure the rasp. i wont have to deal with the rasp to much longer, i'm buying the DPP 10psi turbo kit soon.

You have to keep in mind that the muffler isn't the only thing that goes into a exhaust and it all depends on the driver what they think sounds good or not. There are a lot of variables, like, the size and type of piping, if you get a high flow cat or take it off, keep the resonator or take it off. I happen to really like mine, but i cant say that one thing is better than the other.

I've used Magnaflow on my smaller cars. I have the Flowmaster 40's on my Cutlass, and they are sweet! I had some on the Mustang as well, but it was way too droney. I had borla on an explorer I owed, and it sounded really good, too.
I haven't picked anything out for the Alero yet.

I don't think so, Ronin....I can't remember exactly, but if memory serves me correctly, my stock piping was something like 2 inch, that would make the ID like 1 7/8"?
Don't quote me on this, but I think the Pontiac Grand Am GTs got the 2.25" exhausts, where the Grand Am SEs and our Aleros got the smaller, 2" exhaust setups....even the SEs and Aleros with the 3400.

meh i'll keep the cat just cause im a hippie i guess, if it all coems down to it i'll simply buy a high flow cat, but no need for that at the moment.
all i wanna know is, has anyone taken thier muffler and resonator off? and whats it sound like

but i say keep the muffler, order the SLP 2.5" pipe (call them, they'll sell just the pipe) and delete your res.
