Smile new windshield pita!

I've needed a new windshield for a few months but this weekend the crack started growing.

So yesterday morning I go to the garage and the owner is all smiles and "no problem" but can only do it tomorrow I don't have the part. If I order it now it will get here at 4 and we close at 5. Can you come early tomorrow?

So the next day I pop in, 1/2 day of work lost.. And the freaking guy says he has a few other customer ahead of me. Then he orders the windshield on the phone right then and there!

So then he says he'll only be able to work on it in the afternoon because he doesn't have the part.

Ok, so why am I here at 7.30 am watching you order the part?

It gets better, he tells me he will call when the part gets there but it will only be in the afternoon.

I decide to drive the 25 min to work and just leave early instead.

I walk in the office and I call the guy just to say no rush I'll leave work at 2 and only miss a couple of hours.

His reply... The tech is on his way and I was looking for your car, I can't find it?

My answer... I asked you if I leave my car here and you said it will be later so don't bother, I'll call you. Uh I also never gave you my keys?

"oh yeah, I guess we both misunderstood"

Losing it! So I drive back and he says "I've got a tech here with nothing to do heh heh"

You mother fu*@!!!..I bite my tongue and say nothing and go to a diner across the street. My car sat there in front for an hour.

So still waiting.. Any bets I waste my whole day here?

Gurrr!

It was ready exactly at noon. They did a superb job. Car looks almost new. They threw in the anti fog and anti rain for free.

Yeah its rainx and the insurance payed for it. He could have at least given me one of those $20 air freshener!

Ps, english is his first language, he's just a typical mechanic who jerks you around.

The tech who did the job was french and I made a point of telling him how professional his work was.

Now all I need is to get the horn fixed. Something messed up in the mfs. Anyone have any ideas? Haynes diagram perhaps??

i would never go back to that shop, and make it known that every person i know isn't going either. that level of customer service is completely unacceptable.

and MOST places (if your going through your insurance company and you have glass coverage) will come out to your car to do it, regardless of where it is.

$250 deductible. I'm ok with that price. My insurance is low enough to make that a good deal.

Yeah...I know that....it is free to him but the insurance company still has to pay the shop that did the work whatever they charged...so I'm sure they marked the price of that stuff up in some form or fashion. Auto mechanics do it all the time I'm sure they are no different.

Any idea what a PPG windshield goes for on these cars?

the alst windshield i bought was for my 1995 Escort, and that was about 5 years ago, and a Carlite windshield cost me $215 installed. I'm guessing that one for an Alero is much more.

I got a low mileage used windshield for just about $100 (and about another $100 installed). The '04-'05 windshield wasn't available aftermarket at the time. And I would rather have original GM glass.

That's why I bought Carlite for my Escort, it is original glass. I'd only even consider Carlite, PPG, and Pilkington.

The horn is down under the passenger light. Remove light look down you will see it on the frame only one bolt holds it on.

this anti fog stuff works great for interior. and every time I clean my car i always go over the windshield with rainx, its good stuff, saves a lot of wiper usage...
