Sway bar group buy?
Anyone interested in a 3rd Speedbuilt group buy? I missed the 1st and the 2nd group buy and wonder if there is anyone else out there who would want this? If so I'll contact them and also get some GA owners to join in.
If not .... someone please sell me their rear sway bar... if you are not autocrossing or going to the track you probably don't need it :p Moderator edit - Have at it guys: Speedbuilt Sway Bar Pre-Order for 1999-2005 Grand Am and Alero |
did you get the front one?
I'd be in for a set

Yeah got them, thanks. Will try to get the rear ones and put them on together though. |
Last group buy was $144 for 1 and $288 for 2. I'll email PFYC and MP racing now to see if they are willing to do it.
They are going to want all of it up front before they do anything. They got hosed the last time because of non payment. You will need 20 orders for each bar and a way to hold everyone's cash since they will want a lump payment when they place the order. It's not gonna happen. Ill sell you mine for $500. lol.
That sounds impossible now :D.
Just saw a picture of them... are the front and rear exactly the same shape and size except for the thickness? Anyone who has both should know. |
I don't think they are. You could check with your stock front and hold it up to the rear and see.
Okay good news... Mark from MP is willing to help if we can get enough people interested. Please post here if you are interested and I will post this on the GA forum too:

If I didn't JUST replace my busted OEM one with a new OEM one, I'd be in. what a punch in the balls. :(
Put me in for a front and rear
I'd go for a rear sway bar.
front and rear for my black winter alero... I love them on my red one I got the cash in hand
Im up for a set.
i might be interested.

once we get an official price, but I am very interested.
i would also like to know an official price, than i can say yes or no. i would really like a set. can we get pictures of what they look like?
I registered for the grandamgt forum 2 days ago and I'm still in the activation queue... are they always this slow? Need to post this there too.
from my previous research expect cost on 1 bar to be anywhere from 125-200 depending on the manufacturer and how quick they think they will be able to sell them..
in order to get a price set in stone we are going to need prospective manufacturers see that we (the Nbody community) have a real need and want for these bars and that they wont be wasting their time in having them made. |
anyway to get them to design adjustable swaybars for front and rear?
I am sure it cant hurt to ask... however I would say the chances arent that great considering how our luck has been so far with just getting the standard oversized bars made.
I certainly will look into it though ;) |
I bought the front sway bar on the last group buy and I am as happy as a Pig in Shit with how it performs. I might be interested in a rear depending on the final price.
I might be in as long as we don't have MPR as the middle man... we saw how the group buy went with the turbo headers.
hope we can get sumthing rolling here

Yea s&s ripped off everyone and closed shop and I am paying them all back out of my own pocket. So how was I or anyone else supposed to know what s&s was going to do? Also how is that my fault? I have been serving this community for over 5 years now and the only issue to date is the ordeal with s&s. I dont recall you doing anything for the community in that time so as far as I'm concerned if you don't want in on this then that is your problem. |

What kind of sizes are we looking at? Lager bar = better handeling ftw
Well larger bar does not always = better handling on our cars as you probably want some independence side to side. The speedbuilt I believe was 28.6 F and 22.4 R... I would be happier with a thicker R like 29 F and 24R.
Also let's not bring up past blames as Mark is trying to help us get this done. Could anyone post this on the grandamgt forum as it seems like their admin is ignoring my activation. Cheers, |
If anyone has a problem with Mark/MPRacing or anyone else acting as an intermediary, I will gladly volunteer my services.
There are many people here who I'm sure will vouch for my trustworthiness and character. The Speedbuilt bars were 28.6mm F (1.125") and 22.2mm R (7/8"). The car is very neutral with both bars, and I'm happy to give "Oh, snot!" rides when the weather warms up here in northern IL. |
question, what do you mean when it gives the car a neutral handling? does it mean whether it gives it more of an over-steer or under-steer?
He means it almost neither oversteers or understeers but it depends on your input too... I prefer a little oversteer... A FWD car with a loose ass is always fun.
Does anyone know how speedbuilt manufactured these? Is there a blue print?

I registered also, not to long ago, and no activation yet. It would be nice to get some swaybars going again for the N-body community. |
We need to:
1) Get more people show interest on the GrandAM side 2) Decide who the middle man would be. I'm fine with MP racing doing this but some people seem to be unhappy. 3) Send the orders and be patient. If this doesn't take off, I'll either buy a 3 piece swaybar (less likely) or order through a custom sway bar builder I found. You send them the OEM sway bars and $200 and wait for 6 month ... they'll send you back a thicker version... I've seen a few pics of their work and it looks good. |
I might be interested, just need to know what the price is for a set.
