I've been checkin out some new speakers and come across a couple of questions. what is the differnce between a 4,3,or 2 way speaker?
and also...if i'm not lookin for something too extreme...is pioneer a decent brand?

a 2 way speaker has a woofer and a tweeter, a three way has a woofer a mid and a tweeter......you get the idea.
what price range are you talking about? Pioneer should be pretty good, i dont have any personal experience with them though.
I suggest JL, Infinity, Bluaplunkt.
Just do some reseach into how much you want to spend and then see whats the best you can get for you money. Caraudio.com is a great place to get info on just about everything to do with caraudio.

Well I found a set of pioneers for the front and the back that would only cost me about $180-$200. i could probably afford to spend a little more but if pioneer is a good brand and a decent upgrade from stock i would be just as happy going with them.

go for it then.
anything is better than stock.
oh and are you replaceing the stock deck as well?

I have the pioneer 4-ways and I have absolutely no complaints with them. When I turn my subs off and just run my other 6 speakers, it still sounds good. They have them at crutchfield for 129 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HahympZIhLm/c...Pioneer#see_all (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HahympZIhLm/cgi-bin/prodgroup.asp?g=52300&avf=Y&skipvs=T&nvpair=FFBrand%7CPioneer#see_all)
I would order them from here before anywhere else.

Is it necessary to get an amps or subs, or can i just replace the speakers.
and since the 6x9's in the back don't exactly fit what do you have to do?
and i have been lookin at some new decks too...but i'm not totally sure on anything yet. being only 15 years old i don't have a huge budget to work from lol

They will fit in there with those factory plates...I was able to get both of mine in this time w/out breaking any clips, but last time i broke a couple clips off...no biggie though. They will fit in there though. Subs and amps aren't necissary, but your new upgraded speakers won't sound real great off of the factory radio.

So your saying i need amps or a new head unit?
alright thanks...cuz when i went on car audio and checked for speakers that fit the car none came up...but i knew a 6x9 is what would fit.
doubleN0alero
11-13-2005, 07:38 PM
new head unit unless you'd want to amplify your factory one

if you want to save a few bucks... find the speakers you want (usually on sounddomain.com)
then go to www.etronics.com and cut and paste the speaker name in to the search bar. if they also supply it, you can pricematch the speakers at sounddomain for 5% cheaper. :thumb:
works well for those on a budget! lol

thanks for the tip cherry...and if i buy a new head unit double0 don't i have to puchase the installation kit as well?
cherrington17
11-13-2005, 08:38 PM
if you buy it itself, most sites will include the proper one w/ the order. (sounddomain, crutchfield) you can also pricematch the h.u on etronics, but it voids the free wire kit and installation kit. so do the math and figure out which gets you more money.
personally, i pricematched my first h.u, and ended up spending more money on the install kit.
doubleN0alero

crutchfield throws in all the installation stuff with it. The radio i'm putting in for my friend at christmas I got from crutchfield. The installation stuff was around $35 or so and it was free.

dood, how much do you want to spend?
Whats your budget first, then decide how much you want to spend on each component, if you dont have a decent deck, RCAs, Amp,and speakers its just not gonna cut it for the average person.
When I say decent I dont mean you have to break the bank.
Tell us how much you are willing to spend and maybe we can help you allocate funds to each piece.
Installing a deck in your hoe is pretty easy, the worst case is you will have to cut a bit of plastic and relocate your "dinger".

Well...for the last few days i've been learning about new stuff that i might need or could use, and things are starting to look a little more expensive. i originally thought i coud just replace the speakers and get a new head unit or amp...which could be about $400-500$
so now i'm just totally lost and confused  ...my blind ignorance is just a result of me being a newb and knowing all of nothing. :wtf:
doubleN0alero
11-14-2005, 02:44 PM
you could get a new head unit and 6X9s for abour $400 easily. You could even squeeze a cheapo amp inthere for about $450.
firstson
11-14-2005, 03:25 PM
Well i don't wanna go cheapo...i'd rather get a decent head unit and at least new rear speakers for the money.

I'm putting a pioneer in an accord in a couple weeks that i picked up for 159 including all the wiring harnesses and the face plate. Its a decent radio too. MP3/CD and it has connections for either one of the 2 satellite radios.

I'd get good front speakers before I got rears.
cherrington17
11-14-2005, 05:21 PM
^depends on music preference tho. if you want alot more bump them tunes, go w/ back first....
but yeah.. for 400-500 you should be able to get a nice setup.
a decent h.u ~200-250
good speakers run about 100. (i have a set of soundstream 6x9's that i got for 100. they are amazing.)
might even be able to toss a front set in there.
but personally, i'd listen to king asoka... if a man pays like 8K for speakers  .. he might know what he's talking about. (or be a complete newb. :P )
King Asoka
11-14-2005, 05:22 PM
yeah, get a good quality deck, fronts and a 4ch amp, then go from there.
I suggest looking at Eclipse, Alpine, Panasonic, and JVC for decks, typically you want at least 5volt preout, make sure it has 3 sets of preouts. Most decks now play mp3s.
For fronts i suggest JL, Infinity, Alpine, Rockford
Amps JL, PG, Alpine, Rockford
You can find most of these brands at online retailers who can offer them for very low prices. Do some reseach on the high end models and go from there.
Feel free to post examples of components you are considering, and we can try to give feedback based on personal experience and tech specs.

Lol...good point, i just don't know how lightly he used the term "average person"
double0 where did you get that pioneer setup...cuz i've been lookin on bestbuy and their installation kits for an alero are like 100+, all the others are under like 40 thats so wrong. :pissed: ...i think its cuz their the only ones that have to have the dinger replaced for safety reasons :banghead:

that is the pioneer radio it is the DEH-P4700MP. Once you add it to your cart you will see all the additional stuff you get with it. I'm not sure where to find the dinger kit, but somebody around here should, so somebody post up where to get that bad boy.

think about it in the long run. if you're going to be installing more than 3 amps, then you need to look for me pre-amp outputs, but if you're not, then dont sweat it cause it will just be more mess for you to tuck behind the dashboard.

Oh well i never knew all that...i was look for way more than i needed too. i'm gonna go super huge with the audio setup. alls i was ever thinkin was new h.u., speakers, and an amp.

the pre-amp outputs are for however many amps you want to hook up.

If you buy a deck at the same time from crutchfield they will give it to you for $39 plus they will give you harness for the deck and master sheet instructions

I would also HIGHLY suggest Crutchfield for your purchase. Let me know if you do, if i refer a friend, i get $20!

Quoted post
I think there is a bit of a missunderstanding.
I suggested that the deck should have 3 preouts, F/R/SUB and that it had atleast 5volts of preout voltage. NOT that it had to have 5 preouts.
I dont think you will find many decks with 5 preouts.
They usually only have 3 preouts and 1 input.
Anyway.
That sony is pretty decent for the price. Just make sure you get the right kit. and no matter what they tell you, you CAN make it fit. It may just require a bit of cutting. no big deal.
I could take some time to find you some speakers and an amp too, just tell me the most you want to spend on each.
Goodluck with it all :thumb:

oh and that sony is only 4volt which is still pretty good. I dont know how accurate it is, it used to be that if it said 4volt it was probably really only 3 or 3.5. these days i have no idea of how good these manufacturers are. But either way im sure you will be happy with it.

Sorry that was my bad...thats what i was trying to say but definately didn't say it right.
so are you sayin that you need a preout for each of the speakers sets...front back and then one for amps or am i just bein unintelligent again?
i've heard so much in the last 3 days i'm gettin so lost  ...this is confusing stuff.
