Steering Wheel Noises

just happened recently, everytime i turn left or right in a small radius i hear a creaking/squeaking/rubbing type noise and it's only in a small radius like from the 10o'clock to 2 o'clock position if i turn more than that i dont hear it anymore and it happens when i'm stopped and when i 'm moving. any ideas.

It's probably your brakes. I had the same thing happen the first time I needed new brakes. There is something that causes that squeeky noise once your brakes wear down to a certain point. I am pretty sure that's what it is.

is the noise actually in your steering wheel or just in the car when you turn?

^^i'm pretty sure it's THE steering wheel, when i'm stopped and i turn i hear it and when i move i hear it. and it doesnt sound like it's coming from the wheels or brakes.

My squeeking wasn't in the brakes, it was in the steering wheel. When I brought it in to the Olds dealer, they said it was caused by the brakes being so low, they changed out the brakes and it stopped squeeking.

Typical GM, the Alero hasn't done it yet, but I have another GM car that did the same thing

mine would do something similar but only when it was cold or wet and it was a bad strut mount plate.

It could be the clock spring in the steering wheel area. It controls the air bag, horn and cruise control switches. Sometimes when they need to be lubed with dielectric lube, they will make noise. It should be a pretty simple fix.

i think this is the closest b/c it was raining for a couple days, but then again this is the first time this is happening (i guess theres a first for eveything) i didnt really notice it yesterday but i'll check again today.
