I've recented started getting the service engine soon, trak off and anti lock brake lights on all at the same time. They reset when I turn it off and then suddenly reappear intermittently. Any ideas or suggestions on what to check before I take it to the dealer? Thanks for your ideas. :thumb:

Hubs. Do a search on the forum. Reset it to search for older threads and you'll find plenty of them. Try searching for 'wheel bearing' or 'hubs.' Mine have both been replaced and one is bad again. The part is warrantied but the job is a PITA. Anyway... I think it's Federal Mogul who has a redesigned part out now. Don't get it from the dealer. It's a tapered bearing instead of roller bearing so they last longer.
If you're getting those lights chances are it's the ABS sensor part of the hub assembly that's fried, not the bearings that are bad. But it's all one part, so you have to replace it all. They're about $100 each.
The V6 tends to eat up the bearings, and the 4 seems to last long enough to fry the sensor. Either way, it happens to everyone, and there's a how-to on here if you want to do it yourself.

Oh yeah, there's one other thing it could be, but I don't remember what. If you have a warranty, bring it in, they'll know right away what it is.

Thanks a million! I purchased an extended warranty when I bought it and thank God I did! :yahoo: It has saved me thousands literally! I'll go ahead and make an appointment today and take it to the dealer and let them spend the warranty company's money first. :thumb:

OH MY GOD! :pissed: I heard from the dealer today and the wheel speed sensor I think they called it threw a code to the computer and the hub has to be replaced. Get this! Almost $600!!!! The flippin hub is $400 alone! Now I'm REALLY glad I bought that extended warranty!! :yahoo: $50 deductible and I'm out the door. Now I'm hearing this thump like sound when I just barely turn my steering wheel back and forth. Any idea what that is? They're gonna check it out.

That's such a ripoff. The GM part is $350, but the aftermarket part (direct replacement) is $100 at Autozone. You're cool getting it all for $50 though. (And I was right )

Steering rack could be loose. Mine has been for a while. It'll be fine until it about gives out. If they'll fix it for you under warranty let 'em have at it though.

Yeap you were right. :yahoo: Hopefully it'll still be under warranty when the right side goes. I've got around 80,000 on it and the warranty expires at 100,000. When the service writer moved the steering wheel he immediately said he thought it may be the intermediate shaft. We'll see when it goes back in to ahve the hub replaced. :thumb:

Wow, you made it pretty far on original hubs. I have 90,000 miles on mine and I need to replace one a second time. They've both been done once already. But like I said, I have a V6, they eat the bearings. My sensors have always been fine when I pulled them. It's the HUUMMMMM that gives mine away.

Do it yourself and it's only $100. ;) Otherwise $200 is a fair deal.

Dayum. Isn't there a warranty on the parts you bought already? I'm set now that I replaced them both, I get free parts from now on. Just like no one really knows that most brake pads are warrantied if you save your receipt and get the same kind...

Actually mine lasted on my 2000 until just now and I'm almost sure this is the first time. I got it with right at 36,000 miles and it now has around 85,000. ;)

Both of mine went by 120,000km. Can't remeber exactley what I paid. But I think under $200 CA. I'll check with the wife. The 1 for my 3/4 ton 4x4 p/u was $400. Glad it's easier to change on the car than the p/u.

Does it sort of feel like the transmission is wonky when the hub is gone. Every once in a while it feels like one of the wheels is taking a little longer to turn .

I'm not so sure about that. I have the Ecotec and my bearing went out at 33k. I think its just another poor GM design. I have had lots of honda's and various other cars in my family and they went until 200k and never had a wheel bearing.

My ABS light came on and so did my Traction control light but it turned out to be only a loose wire on the ABS harness my brother had a left over wire clip so he cut out the bad wire swapped the new clip in and now the lights don't come on at all

My hub went (lots of grinding noise) but after i changed it the ABS/ Traction light was still on. So my guess is that it's the other side. Hey Wayfastwhittie where is the harness located? Maybe this is my problem. In the summer it was on all the time but now that its cold and snowing the light is off when i start the car and after about 5 seconds of driving the light's come on.
