View Full Version : Who Says A High-flow (2.5") Exhaust Has To Be Loud

Today, I had what is hopefully my final exhaust revision put on the Alero.
For those of you who don't know, the front half consists of TOG headers dumping into a 2.5" Magnaflow catalytic converter (gotta stay legal).
Anyhow, about 2 weeks ago I removed my 2.25" Borla cat-back and had a 2.5" SLP cat-back bolted in, along with a Magnaflow 2.5" round resonator.
The exhaust was super-deep, with none of the raspiness that characterizes a SLP exhaust, but still too loud (although it sounded excellent at idle). The cabin drone between 1500-2200rpm was unbearable.
Fast-forward to this morning. I had the SLP muffler removed, and replaced it with a #14210 Magnaflow muffler (2.5" inlet and outlet on the same end of the muffler). Voila, nice and quiet, with no flow restriction. And it looks totally stock from behind.

I wish I could post a video, but I don't have a way to record it. Think Borla with an edge, and you've about got it.

Oh, and the PowrTuner experiment starts this Tuesday. :yahoo:

I'd really love to hear it. I can't stand the drone of mine...

I loved my magnaflow for the reason of no drone....my flowmaster is bearable, but still provides a headache every now and again... Magnaflow def is the way to go.

I either don't have a drone, or I just don't notice it.

I have S&S Headers, downpipe, magnaflow h/f cat, and SLP catback.....I love the tone except when it's at high rpm's..it's really raspy. I have 2 questions: would a resonator like that magnaflow one in addition to my setup help? and if so, is it going to restrict flow any?

I'm sure it would help with the noise, and I can't imagine it would restrict flow in the least - it is 2.5" straight-through.

hmmmm....this might b an option for springtime....we'll see

Thanks!
