My Alero was in a wreck a while back & got it repaired but noticed My Steering Column does not lock when the key is removed.I never really paid attention to this before.
I was told that Alero columns do not lock.
Can any of You verify if this is correct.........Thanks

They lied, all GM columns lock without the key in it since like, 1980...

Time to pay the collision shop a visit tomorrow & see what they (if they will repair it) or file in small claims court & a better Business call.

Are you sure they lock? You guys may want to double check yours and see if you can indeed get it to lock. My 03 does not lock no matter how hard a turn the wheel with the key out. Also my moms 98 Malibu did not lock either. I read somewhere that the N-body cars (or any GM with the ignition switch in the dash) do not have locking steering wheels.

My 2001 does not lock. My wife's 98 Malibu definitely does lock, so they may have changed it for 99, when the Alero's started. Damn cheap GM.

I called 2 Dealers & they said the column locked, then I called GM & after about 10 minutes of them researching their answer was: Grandam & Alero's DO NOT have locking columns due to the Passive system.

Just goes to show, don't ask your dealer questions. They won't know.
