ok here's a weird one, i hvae spiders living in/around my car. i saw a quarter sized spider like last year but couldnt catch it... and now a year later i see a similar sized one making a web between the car and the passenger side mirror when i got out to get it it crawled behind the mirror, then a couple days later i see a small baby spider by the dome light, and tonight i see a nickel sized spider crawl across my windshield and behind my ?a-pillar?... wtf should i do? do they have spider traps like they have roach traps?

^^if i could figure out where they wer.... i mean NO i'm not gonna do that, ok any real solutions?

raid.
i'm sure there might be come kind of organic solution.. like spraying some strong colonge in the interior of the car. (something that will last) Strong scents really mess them up. it might be enough to drive them away.
or you could go the darwin way, and convert your car into a reptile/amphibian terrarium. they'd eat the spiders, but then you need something to eat the reptiles...
seriously though, if there is no food for spiders they should move onto a new location. obviously there is a reason to stay. give your car a good detailing and they should also vacate.
good luck. (luckily its only spiders... they are much more finnicky about their living spaces then say.. roaches. now THAT would be a problem)

i dont have any food though, i dont eat in the car and the only "food" i have right now are mints. unless they like to eat chemical stuff like car wax and different wipes and such...

i suggest, armorallign the interior im sure it contains things that would repel insects and what not, because of the scent it has.
second, pressure wash yoru exterior, be sure to hit all the nooks and crannies like the mirrors.
also dont forget to wipe down the door jams and trunk jam.

yeah i get them alot too here in detroit of all places .. i have a power washer and i took it to my car about a month ago trying to get off built up wax and stuff in all the hidden areas also havent seen any spiders since then either... remember when i cleared my head lights i had to deal with a few inside them.. but since then no spiders.. and yes armor-all helps out i like the wipes alot keep it under the passenger seat go thru a jar of those a week sometimes.. (very dusty construction areas) but no spiders whoo hoo....

i would armour all but i'm planning on dying my dash so that's outta the question i guess, and i do take it the pressure wash i must have sprayed my mirror for about 5 min alone  but yeah still there. any other solutions? i'm sure someone out there has to hvae a dad or konw someone that's an exterminator and knows how to deal with spiders in a non-toxic way

White's right. Armorall the inside and powerwash the outside. And do a little cleaning around the inisdes of the door jams and engine area. Spiders will vacate and your car will be spotless, too. Insects tend to make homes in objects they believe to be stationary. You might then try using the car more and parking it in another location (at the curb instead of the driveway, for instance), at least for a little while.

like i said i'm gonna dye the dash soon so no armor all. and i do wash it, it is my daily driver, and i do park curbside LOL. i actually live in Chicago not the burbs so drive way isnt even an option for me
btw can i just use a pressure spray to spray the engine bay or is that not good? i hvae completely stock engine so no wai or cai to worry about

yeah spraying the engine bay is fine but leave the car running while you do it... it will gaurantee it will start... and leave it running for 15 minutes afterwards to give it time to dry.... about the spiders... you might consider going to a pet shop or a large animal outfitter (i.e. horses) and look at types of bug repellent... they have some that smell quite attractive and it repels insects of all sorts for one... and kills them almost instantly on contact....

There is new Raid I believe is complelty natural and actually smells good. I would just sparay some on the floor and under your seats in the trunk and what not.

could also either rig one of those "electronic" replellants or maybe a citronella candle (small enough to fit in cup holder w/o causing lots of flame damage.) i'd really fill the car quick w/ scent and the spiders would hate it.

Spiders suck... My husband about killed us one time- he was driving my car and a spider walked out onto the steering wheel next to his hand. He had a FIT! He hollared and swatted at the spider trying to smash it. We were swerving down the road... it was pretty funny now that I look back at it.
cherrington17

usually spiders will only linger in an area if that area has alot of insects for them to eat. if there isn't they usually ditch and web up somewhere else...
any update on the problem?

my friends got brown recluses living in his car. They bite him all the time, but he's I guess built up an immunity, cause the bites don't look bad anymore when they bite him.

ok i may have figured the problem out, well actually it was oldsman that did it. and they werent in the engine bay or originally behind the mirror but... they were in my spring/struts. oldsman was putting on my new springs when we see a few spiders hanging and making nests in my whell well. at last 3, 4 or 5 were killed. and some had weird green colored markings on the back.
so hopefully that takes care of that. i usually get a nice line of web across the inside of my windshield everyday so hopefully it wont be there this morning. :)

mothballs behind the mirrors and I think I saw on TLC that a mixture of white vinegar and water will help too...I know it won't smell the best...but those are things that I heard of that aren't chemical in any way.

yes, vinegar works great for any kind of insects. they hate it... insects + acid = dead insects.

A spray made with chestnut and clove scents deters spiders.
OR
Osage Hedge Balls have been used as a natural spider repellent for a long time, but only in the last few years have they gained more mainstream popularity, even if there is no explanation for why they work. They can be found in the produce section of your local grocery store. If not, ask the manager to order them, they're very cheap and widely available.
Steps to deploying hedge balls:
1. Think about how many corners of your house you wish to put hedgeballs in. Think about at least two apples for every decent sized living room or bedroom.
2. Go to your grocery store. Find the hedge balls in your produce department, they look like the Lime’s retarded uncle.
3. Go home, but not before purchasing your hedge balls. Remember, shoplifting is a crime.
4. Place small sheets of aluminum foil where you intend to put the balls. Place the balls carefully on the foil. Make sure they won’t roll off, eventually hedge balls leave a sticky residue – hence the tin foil.
5. Sit back and watch for spiders. Have you seen any? Well of course not! That's what the hedge balls are for!
6. Throw away hedge balls about 1 – 2 months after setting them out. Spiders should stay away, at least until next spring.
OR
Here is a natural spray that you can use in your house to eliminate spiders temporarily. To get Immediate Relief from spiders inside the house buy 8 oz bottle of any natural soap. Buy 1 oz of Citra solv, or Citronella oil, Pennyroyal oil, Cinnamon oil or any other type of essential oil like rose oil or tea tree oil (you can get these at the drug store).
Add 5 tablespoons of the soap per quart water. Add 5 tablespoons of the Citra solv to the quart water which you added the soap and label it spider control spray. Add to sprayer and spray inside house where spiders are seen. Should be done as often as needed. This is not a long term solution but will provide you immediate help.
You can also add 1 drop of any of the following (depending on preference to you) to 1 quart of water: These mixtures will kill spiders but are non-toxic to children, pets, and wildlife. Test for strength. Citronella Oil
Lavender Oil
Cinnamon Oil
Peppermint Oil
Citrus Oil
Tea Tree Oil
Hope this helps in your fight against spiders.
This has no relation to your spider issue, but I laughed when I read it...
Fire ants - Killing the egg-laying queen is the only way to get rid of the colony. Choose a day when it is dry and rain is more than a day away. Sprinkle a teaspoon of instant grits on each fire ant hill. The workers carry the grits to the queen who eats them. When she drinks water, the grits expand in her stomach and kill her. The rest of the ants die within days.

update... getting outta the car one night and my g/f points to a medium sized (bigger than the ones in suspension) spider crawling fast across the windshield, get out and just smashed it with my hand and left it there till the next day when i went to pressure wash everything inc. engine bay. havnt seen a web yet :) but i 'll probably give the vinegar thing a try since i havent seen those fruit things and i dont want to order online.
