Bit Of A Missfire [Archive]

ive noticed over time every now and then at certain steady rpm's the car sort of bumps, like it skips a beat but just barely enoughto tell. you know a missfire.

and i got my car scanned, and it said i had a missfire on cylinder 1.

so i take out the spark plu, clean it up an it looks perfectly fine.
and this spark plug alogn with the rest are fairly new, like 12k miles new. they are iridium something's.....

but anyways, what could be causeing this? is it the spark plug wires? mine are still stock wires.

could it be the radio!? :blink:

same problem i had a loose boot so when the car warmed up cilinder 1 wouldent work

hmm i'll look into it, but do you think that the stock wires just arent cuttin it anymore?

Could just be the plugs, like what happened to me

ya my plugs were bad around 80-90k. gaps were nasty. could fit the whole gauge in with room to spare

well like i said, my plugs only have like 12k o nthem, but it also could be my cat....not sure if its clogged.

well if it all comes down to it and it is the plugs. what do you guys recomend? and money doesnt matter hear, i will take the best of the best.

ac delco. just take out the plug for cyl 1 and check it

as i said, i already have, and i cleaned it up, and sprayed WD-40 on it and everything.......and i got the car scanned again and there is no missfire it says....(sigh) :(

did you check the gap? and the iridium's arent supposed to be that good really. You can try getting new wires, i'd just get stock replacements though, as delco or whatever they are.

havent checked the gap, they were the right gap when i bought them......but dont AC delco's spark less than iridiums?

not that i know of maybe. i always thought iridiums were just meant to last longer.

Do you have the 3.4 v6? If so, was the car bought new? The 3.4's have a bad problem with missfiring for some reason. I bought my 03 brand new and it did it right off the lot. I took it in on several occassions and they all told me that it was a issue of the motor. I didn't believe it until I tested out three other cars with the 3.4. Every one did it. Had I of tested the car a bit more, I would probably never of bought the thing. Normaly the missfire is very slight. Just a light sputter in idle. However, I have had two occassions that the car died while using the AC on a hot day. My personal opinion is a altenator problem under heavy load.

k i picked up some AC-Delco IRidium's. they were 5.99 each and for some reason i noticed it says "JAPAN NGK" on them.

so.....should i put em in or take em back?

AC delco don't make iridiums. NGK from japan makes those. AC delco only make AC Delco plugs regular line, AC delco plat, and AC delco rapidfires.

so the plugs you bought are NGK's not AC Delco brand.

lol i swear to go it says AC delco on the white party and then under it it says NGK iridium. maybe they are new? i'll get a picture.

Those are still NGK plugs. cept AC delco put they name on it to sell them as their own. Looks like the AC delco NGK market is cheaper then buying the NGK box.. hehehe 5.99 for ac delco's plugs labeled by NGK. or 12.99 each for NGK labeled plugs themselves.

When i looked online everywhere at autozone.com and even ac delco.com it only mentions these two as their own product

So ur plugs even though it says AC delco, There really still NGK's. What the model number for those plugs?

As long as those are gappged at .060 . They should be fine to use.
