Can anybody help me out? I have an 01 Alero sedan and there is a light up in the cubby hole in front of the shifter and mine burned out and when I was trying to remove it, it broke and now I can't find anywhere what size/style the bulb is so that I can buy a replacement so if anyone could give me that info I would appricate it. Also I have removed my automatic shifter knob so that I could take off all the trim and when I put the shifter back on and put the staple back into the front side to hold it down it won't go in all the way. I have pulled it up pushed it down twisted both ways but it will go in almost all the way, and hold the shifter on, but it won't go in far enough to where I can't feel it sticking out if you know what I mean. Finally, does anyone know where I can get a new center air vent in the camel/beige color? I just need the very front part that has the fins, the adjuster knob, and the outer ring. Mine in two places when I was trying to get it out. Thanks for any help!

Should be 194, check out sylvannias auto site for verification

Here is the replacement guide:

Are you sure the shifter is completely down when you are trying to put the staple in? The shifter should slip in then you get some resistence and you have to push it down a bit farther

be careful next time!

personally, with that cubby, it drilled to small holes, in the top of the cubby, put two led's in there, and cut the wires from the other light, used them as power and ground for the new ones. works really well for me.

the shifter it a gigantic pain the first few times you do it. it will be really frustrating to get back in, but when it finally goes you'll be more then happy. i'm at the point now where i've done it so many times, that i can do it w/o looking... its just something ya gotta work at. lol

make sure the shift button is facing the driver. (duh)
slid it down nearly all the way.
give it a few shakes side to side as you push it down harder and it should drop into place.

I've found it easier to hold the staple in place (in the small hole it slids into) and the shifter drops down... the staple should slid into place when the shifter hits the right height.

vents... i got no clue. sry.

my dad found out how to get the shifter out.. but when i put it back together i havent pushed the pin all the way back in i dont fel a need to i may end up taqking my center console out some time plus it gives me a finger rest when i'm shiftin :P but other then that the light in the cubby is the same as the one for the shift knob lights (192/197 or so) those bases twist and pull out and the light itself should just pull out of the base.

It's not too difficult to take out, But I recommend pushing it back in the rest of the way, because it's not something you can just go to the store and replace if it falls out.

The size is a bit smaller then 194. It's a small tiny bulb. I could probably take mine out and show it to my cousin. He works at a pontiac dealer.

The 194 rubber covers don't fit it, I was so used to not seeing light there,
when I put my console back together after installing my radio, I noticed the bulb wasn't in it's plastic fastner. So when I put it back; it was too bright for my taste. The jimmy cap worked, but it's still a bit big.

Yeah, try taking the staple and flipping it around. the pointy sides of the staple have one tapered slopped side and one flat one. i believe the flat side faces down as the staple slides in. i've noticed w/ it the other day, it tends to not go in right... not sure why.
