View Full Version : Bosch Platinum 4's

I'm considering changing my plugs a bit early do to some harsh starting issues.
I fixed the problem in a previous car with bosch platinum 4's, which fixed the problem and improved gas mileage.
Has anyone had issues with these plugs in a 4 cylinder?
I've heard they run hot, but why would they burn hotter if the spark provided was the same?

I don't recall who, what, where or when, but if I recall correctly I think it's been said that these plugs don't work very well in our cars. Again, I may be completely mistaken as it's been a really long time since I read anything on them.

1. Clean out your TB - this helps most on starting.
2. If your starting and it revs high - check your Air Idle control valve.
3. Replace your fuel filter, location in the back about 1 foot from the gas tank.
4. Never use Bosch, stick with NGK, Denso, or AC Delco.

Would 50k miles coinside with those problems?

You only got 50K on your car and your having problems?
I got nearly 100K and hadn't had a singla problem.
What exactly is the car doing? Hard start up as in you need to crank it 2-3 times to start?
It revs high then settles down?
It wants to stall then goes to normal?
I mean it the internet so kinda hard to tell you wihtout actually having the car.

It runs fine, every now and then I get a hard start, where I need to crank it a second time. The Oil was just changed and at the appropriate level (from what I can tell with this half *** dipstick) 5w30 valvoline

So you need to crank more then once.
Then its your ignition module. The module still work fines but when its cold you have to crank more then once correct. If so then i suggest having your ignition module tested. It'll still start but sometimes the Ig-mod doesn't provide enuff spark on startup. Normal problem with the twin cam.

A guy at the part's store once told me that the +4's are crap in anything except a Ford. Don't know why he said that or if it's even true but I wouldn't spend the money on them. Get a plain Bosch platinum plug and you will be fine.

not necesarilly, theres been a thread that out fuel pumps need priming before you start it, ive noticed it especially if you just drove it turned it off and came back a few minutes later and went to start it, there are other occasions but thats generaly it, what a lot of us do is turn the ignition on but dont start the car, let the pump prime for like 5 seconds(enough time to put ur seatbelt on).......that should solve the problems most of the time, i change my fuel filter around every 12-15,000 miles, the book says something like 50, but when i do at 15,000 i definately notice a difference.......and id recomend that to everyone, it aint too hard either......

I put in Bosch Platinum 2's in my 4-banger about 10,000 miles ago. No problems.
By the way.. where is the fuel filter on the Alero? I have looked all over, followed fuel lines, but I guess that I am missing just one spot. Do I need to jack up the car to see it or something? I crawled under there and found nothing.

Bosch plugs are the only plugs i have had any type of complaints by people coming back into advance auto parts saying they are crap. I always recommend Autolite platinum. Ive NEVER had someone come back saying they didnt like them and they are platinum so they will last you a good while.

Had the dealer tune at 100000 and they put in platnum plugs, AC Delco, at one time back when I had a real job :emotlol: None of the guys in the shop would put bosch platinum plugs in a new GM vehicle, something to do with lowered resistance and causing misfire cause computer wouldn't read the plug as there but the AC Delco plugs are great. :thumb:

Thanks for the help folks,
I've heard crap about bosch platinum fours and twos form alot of people.
I didn't want to believe it because A, I ran em for 50000 miles in a 99 escort 2.0 sohc with improved results and no problems, and B, Most of the mechanics were GM biased. In fact most were Ford lovers.
I've had 2 mechs that worked at gm dealerships, that witnessed problems with the bosch's, and also warned about warranty.
General opionion is nay, SO I'll take that advice. No offense to those who haven't had problems :)

+4's have been in my Cavi for 5 years now, and they are awesome in it! But.......tried them in my old 3.4 Alero and nothing but problem's. Had to put the originals back in only 3 days after replacing them, and all issues went away.
Won't even try them in my new Alero!
