I have a 2001 3.4 V6 with a CAI 3in with inverted top K&N. Off the line and until 60 my car is a beast, at higher cruising speeds i have no throttle response and seems like it takes too long to get the the next gear....? I am putting headers on her and a custom exhaust setup, also going to DHP for PCM tuning..... I do not understand what the issue is. Is this common or is there something wrong with air/Fuel ratio and how can i fix/Troubleshoot. Please advise and throw some things at me...thanx, you guys/gals are great and i plan on becoming VIP here shortly, this is a great site.
Just so you all know Pimpalero put a note on my car for me to check this site out..Good promoting!!

What do you mean by next gear? You only have 4. You mean you don't get the downshift soon enough?

that is just what it feels like...No Balls to it, and no throttle response at higher speeds (Like trying to pass on 94)

lets look at an example.
Lets say your at crusing speed, you will be in OD. So to get out of OD you have to give it a fair bit more throttle for it to downshift. I find that I have to press down about an inch to get it out of OD, unless im going up a hill.
is this what you are talking about?

Yeah, you almost have to give it 100% to get the 4-3 downshift at those speeds. I could ask Pat exactly how much throttle you need, but I know it's quite a bit.
If you are giving it that much and aren't getting a response then you have a problem.
It's not air/fuel if you haven't set any lights.

That makes sense about the the OD but when i have her mashed as far as she can go it just doesnt feel right, that is what concerns me..... When i pass, i stomp on her hard!!It doesnt always happen though??Sometimes i get the power and sometimes not. I am not throwing codes anymore either. I had a bad IAT sensor and she was running lean but it has all been fixed...?

Dirty Fuel injectors maybe? They can cause issues like this with NO check engine light. You should take it to a shop that does the professional fuel injector cleaning. Its one of those things that may not help, but won't hurt.

That is not a bad idea! I will change out my fuel filter also, and a fresh tune up!! Thanks for your help
