Specs:2001 olds alero 2.4

Ok heres the deal with what i've been thinking about, I just bought a peformance intake filter and got rid of the box that comes stock. I connected it straight to the rubber elbow right after the sensor that is there. Well, the car sounds and performs incredibly. I love it, but i want more,

So this bring me to the questions

1. What is that senor on the intake elbow and is it required

2.Would it be possible to come straight off the engine with a pipe pointing straight for the middle of the car and connecting the filter there, basically creating your own intake?

This is where I got worried, because I don't know if the engine needs a longer intake pipe for intake purposes to flow correctly. The pipe would only be about 3-7 inches long. OR if i went straight down and past the radiator on the LEFT side(When facing car) towards the fog light then the pipe would be about 2-3 ft. And if i REALLY have to i can put that sensor in it. But i think it would be a nice look with the intake at a 90 degree angle with the engine, anyway let me know what you think of this idea.

that sensor is an air intake temperature sensor...you need it, without it you'll throw a SES code...

long or short works either way as long as you have the IAT sensor in the tube

If you put it right there, it will suck up a lot of hot air from the radiator and engine.

just buy a cheap intake off ebay for a cavalier with the 2.4L, and then use the K&N filter you bought

the best idea for custom would be to use a z24 intake. move your battery back about 8 inches. get a custom elbow piece, and relocate the filter in the wheel well. once again, tho, make sure you have that friggin sensor in right, or it'll be jacked up like mine was.

now why would you have to move hte battery for an intake off of a 2.4 equipped cavalier?

buy one of the copy cat AEM intakes on ebay for $20-40 bucks.

Si with the induction dynamics Cai i bought i also got a new throttle body too...now Ive never change out a tb and one thing I do know is that there is a gasket there, im replacing that and someone told me to clean both surfaces where the gasket goes and what not..but for the semsors that go on the tb, Anything Special to ensure they work properly again?

not really if you see some dirt use electronic contact cleaner. for the most part just an easy swap.

Okay, I know what CAI is and CCAI, But this is the first place I've heard Of WAI.

Could someone enlighten me? I'm not stupid. Just ignorant. :P

WAI = Warm Air Intake. also known as short ram. the air filter is still located in the engine bay
