View Full Version : Gas Gauge Problems

Alright, within the last two tanks of gas I've noticed that my gas gauge has gone haywire. It will display fine, seemingly, for the first full half-tank. Whenever it seems that I'm going below half is when the trouble begins.

At below half, the gauge starts to fluctuate to readings of above half and moves around frequently. I've also noticed that sometimes when I'm at a light for a while the gauge will plummet to completely empty. Then, when I hit the gas to go when the light turns green, the gauge will shoot back up to some random (wrong) reading again.

Any ideas or suggestions? Even if the suggestion is to take it in to a shop, any things I should know so I don't go into the shop looking like an idiot (read: sucker)?

Thanks.

yeah its the float in the gas tank...to replace it you also have to replace the fuel pump...hopefully you're under warranty...I think there might be a TSB on it so you might be okay

I have a '99 =,(

Would it still be the sensor that's mentioned in the TSB or would it be the float?

Sorry, I'm car-stupid.
