Tensioner Pully Adjustment

I replaced the water pump but I can't get the tensioner tight and my belt squeals some when I rev. Does anyone know if its supposed to be self adjusting or spring loaded or what? I can tighten the bolt down but I can't get the belt tight...help please!

Sounds like you need a new one. There like $40 at just about any parts store.

I figured out what I did wrong...I actually took the bolt off holding the tensioner on as opposed to releasing the tension with a breaker bar on the square drive at the bottom of the tensioner. So, it's all fixed now, but, damn, that haynes manual was misleading...

make sure you check your belt the fact that the belt was doing a lot of flexing due to the tensioner not being tightened down might have stretched it or what not......so just make sure that its alrite....
