I know this has probably been covered, but my searching several terms turned up no results.

can someone rehash this for me and tell me not to do it?

In less than 24hrs I'm pulling the cat and clearing it. What will be the consequenses?

I am buying a catco, but not for at least 4 more months, and I'm throwing it away anyhow, so no biggie. I just had my state inspection about a month ago, so I still have a year to go to replace it.

I was told that it COULD give me UP TO 10 more horses....not believing it, thinking about 5-8 max, and I also know I will probably be dealing with neutralizing the SES light until I get the catco or O2 sim.

Opinions, from those who know first hand or have irrefutable info please?

the most hp you will gain is about .006 and taking out the cat just makes it louder, and makes more pollution. if you have all stock exhuast piping, then you will only make yoru exhuast louder, i was gonna do it and decided not to, so removing the resonator is probably a better choice, seeing as how the stock cat can flow better than the engien can produce.

Found on the Grands Ontario forums.....

"Keep a cat on, just upgrade to one of those high flo units. It will be more trouble than its worth not to have one. Plus, whether you have emmissions testing in Florida or not, in the US, it is still illegal to remove a cat from a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles unless it has suffered severe physical damage.
Pick this months issue of TPR (Tuner Performance Reports). They tested a Random Tech cat versus OE & no-cat. The straight pipe gave them 1hp more. the results were:

1999 Honda Civic
56,000mi w/Intake, Pulleys, Header
OE Cat: 150.2whp
RT Cat: 157.1whp
Pipe: 158.3whp

Based on the above, I'd just upgrade the cat. Hope that helps. "

ok, now can someone tell me how to go about removing the resonator.....ie, do I have to put something else in its place, or is it just a removable item as is, and where is it located in the exhaust system? ( I have all stock exhaust)

Removing the res is cool.

If your going to play around with the cat. Buy an O2 sim off PFYC. You SES light will come on (Code P0141)

resonator is right behind the cat. and you need to weld a new pipe in place of it.
