depending on the mileage of your car i would say yes, use it.
ive been using Mobil1 Syn for a long time.
Amsoil is a great syn oil too
the key to getting the long life from the oil is replacing the oil filter ~3000-5000 miles.
many Amsoil and Mobil1 Syn users can get 10,000 + miles before needing to change it.
Amsoil also makes a test kit that you drain a touch of oil into a container and send it in ($2) and they send you back the results and tell you if you need to change the oil.
a buddy of mine got to about 30k miles before he had to change his oil and he was using Amsoil.

i was using plain ol' oil. now i'm using mobil 1 and i noticed i accel a little quicker, and it doesn't take forever to turn over my car on our cold crappy winter mornings/nights here in Western Ny. i'll stick with it now since i've seen the difference.

I've heard once you switch to a synthetic, you can't switch back.

that's not true do a search its been covered
I've used Mobil1 since 10K miles and love it. One of those tuner show on Spike TV did a challenge to see if they gained any power, on the dyno, and they picked up a small gain. they did have syn in the engine tranny, and diff though. But the auto trannies have syn from the factory.
Some things to remember are the syns have top shelf detergent packages in them that are not found in the dyno goo. Also a syn will NOT break down, its vecocity stays constant, so in theory you never need to change it but the oil will get dirty, just a product of its environment, so it needs to be changed regularly. I error on the side of caution and do it at ~5K miles but like germ pointed out it can be done less frequently.
some other good brands to check out, if your looking, are royal purple and lucas oils; enjoy

Has anybody used Royal Purple? There's a place near the house that sells it for roughly $4.50 a quart. Just wondering if it's worth the money.

I find that it helps out in cold starting of the motor. Especially with the temps we get around here. In the summer I don't use it though. Just use the regular stuff, cause it works fine and its cheaper.

i use mobil 1, simply because I put at least 3,000 miles a month on my car and I do not want to have the phassle of changing oil all that offten.
I'll be changing it every 3 months - 9,000 miles.
Amsoil
Mobil1
those are the only 2 synthetics i would use.
i HAVE used Supertech Syn from Walmart on a few oil changes, but that was only used as a "cleaner" oil to get out coolant and sludge and stuff like that after i blew a couple headgaskets.
other than that, its strictly Mobil 1 Syn.
but i didnt have any side effects from the walmart brand syn oil, and it actually did quite well. for $9 for 5 qts, it was as good as anything else i had put in and its temp range did stay consistant for the time i had it in.

i use, it and the first time it's in the engine feels so smooth, i still change my oil every 3-4k, even though it costs a wee bit.

What about that new Q-Advanced full syn stuff from Quaker State? Anyone use that yet? I think I'm gonna get it for my next oil change.

Ive used mobil one syn 5-30 scince the cars cherry was popped. Changed every 3000 +/- 100miles.
BUT..... I swear my main seals are leakin. Somethin is seapin, and it looks to be them....
its common knowledge that if your car was ment for regular oil and you put synthetic in, there is a chance there might be a few leaks (read: drips).
the superior cleaning additives in the syn oil will actually break down the sludge that has build up around seals to keep the sealed. breaking down that sludge free's up the small and tiny imperfections in your seal and it will start to leak.
usually, if the leaks are not major, they will sludge back up over time and stop leaking.
HOWEVER, all leaks need to be checked out to ensure there is nothing majorly wrong.

Penzoil just came out with a sythetic oil that I like really well so far. I use it in my 5.7L dodge. The alero had so many miles on it when we got its best not to change.

Nothing other then mobil 1 for me. 5-30 in the thunderchicken, 0-20 in the mazda, will switch over to 5-20 once I run out. Its pretty much the same though.
