And people thought I was crazy for using a non-high flow cat......

Before S&S :

After S&S Headers:

27HP
29TQ

All I did was install S&S headers, and a new generic universal Non-high flow cat (cause the stock one wouldnt fit right)

This was done on the same Dyno, by thesame person, in very similar temperatures. First run was in January, this one was today (almost april). Only difference is that this time I was running Premium fuel.

Very impressive results!!

That's a nice gain for just headers. I might have to reconsider getting some.

says under his signature: CAI - Borla Cat-back - S&S Headers - B&M Shift+

im not sure if thats still what he has

Thanks, and yeah, CAI and Borla cat back is all I have. It took a long time, but i'm glad I stuck it out and got some S&S dyno results. I hope that somebody finds it useful. Even the guy at the dyno was very surprised with the results. He even asked me if thats all I did was put on headers and nothing else. Anybody have a fairly accurate calculation of what that might compute to be at the crank ?? (HP, TQ)

If the whp was say (I think) 140 stock and rated 170 hp at the crank then thats a 18 % loss, assuming "linearness" going backwards you should be 205-210 hp, but this is by math not knowledge in the field.

Alerosince99

18% loss would be about 256 tq and 207 hp

All alero 3400's have the same auto transmission.

I like that the torque band is a little flatter now. But I would like to find a way to keep it flat longer. Maybe adding a little more fuel in the higher RPM's would help it sustain longer ??

I was on PFYC and saw a harness/PCM thing claiming to help shift quicker i was wonderin if anyone has heard anything about it

Autotrans Interceptor. If you would like more information on it, feel free to start a new topic about it and im sure everyone would be glad to help you out with it

Even though it doesnt show on your graph, you should ask the dyno place if the computer can print out a graph of your air fuel. Then in the future if you get the power tuner or equilvalent that will give you an idea of where to start.

whats the width of the pipes on the S&S? and whats the width of the TOG's?

-Wldman if you want more fuel delivery in the higher RPM's get an adustable fuel pressure regulator

Alerosince99
03-31-2005, 04:36 PM
same width

im guessing that is the shiftplus, and it isnt a whole different tranny, just helps it out

Even though the cat was just a universal and not advertised as a high flow, they usually flow a bit more than the stock ones. Even the newer stock converters aren't all that bad compared to those made years back.

isn't 143 pretty low for cai/exhaust though? turbo, didn't you pull like 160 with those mods? maybe im remember wrong

looks awesome though

i pulled 150 with custom flowmaster exhaust, APOC CAI, and DHP-PCM, in 98 degree temps, in a non ventilated shop and 95% humidity(dam south texas) so i'm looking forward to pulling again after S&S headers.

DHP makes a difference. I don't have that. And yeah, I thought that 143 was a bit low too, but every cars different. Some are factory freaks, some are factory......turds....not saying that mine is, but I've got almost 80,000 miles and had a piston replaced and head replaced etc. (major engine work cause the dealership dropped something in my intake when doing a LIM job). So I am happy with my results.
Either way, the S&S before and after results are awesome, and I am very pleased with my purchase. And now there is no, well this brand is dyno proven, and this other brand is better and bla bla bla. If you like headers, do your research, and make your own decision. I am not here to promote S&S.......just providing my own happy results! :thumb:

end result is very close to what I did with tog's with pretty much the same mods (tb added to mine with slightly higher results but your baseline was lower.
then again I had a tb on my base as well so that would prolly explin it.
with a iccu type tune, slp exhaust, and an ffp underdrive pulley i was able to get up to 186. good numbers though i'm impressed they did that well

yes i did, like he said though, every engine is different, when i dynoed mine my engine only had like 20,000 so it was a relatively fresh engine......i haven't had the chance to beat on it yet real hard..... :smokin:
