Escort, the radar detector people, make something called a "G-Timer Performance Meter" which alledgeds to accurately measure 0-to-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, horsepower, brake test, and more. $99.95

www.GTimer.com (http://www.GTimer.com)

Anyone ever try this device (or one that's similar)?

I've seen a comercial for this. Plugs into the cigarette lighter and gets its info from that or something? I have no idea how this works. Actually, I'd really love to have this if it's not a peice of junk.

haha to tell you the truth Orange, i dont really know why everyone at OSU is so wild about the pronounciation, but hey, ohio state fans can get pretty intense

I have the G-Tech pro (older one) and I can't really figure it out.

But according to it with only a cone filter I had 248 HP and ran 12.83 in the 1/4 mile

Ive heard they are pretty damn accurate. How they work...I dunno.

 I probably didn't use it right but the one I have is very confusing

im guessing it has some sort of camera that watches how fast the car moves, and how much movement there is on the ground. its almost like its a gun that a cop might use. but it depends alot of how its mounted, needs to be properly mounted for better accuracy i bet

^^^I doubt that. From what I understand, you have to program these things to understand your RPM. Once programmed, these meters use some sort of sensor that measures the noise the motor makes at a certain rpm. There are some radar detectors that use this same technology to automatically switch from city to highway mode.

noise has nothing to do with how fast your going..... for instance you could take..... a Geo metro, and remove the firewall and other sound dampener's and hmmmm wow, the engine is louder inside the car.... that doesnt mean anything, its not like the louder the engine the more power the car has....

i have no idea what your talking about with the city and highway thing.

yeah sure you'll most likely have to program in your RPM's and redline, and all that jazz, but what i meant was there is probably a sensor that observes the ground moving by while your driving, and can tell your 0-60 and horsepower as well as your 60-0.

I have a G-tech. Does the same thing measure lateral G's, 0-60 acc, 1/4 hp pull, 100-0 braking, and 60-0 braking.

You set the thing in the mid of your windsheild like a radar detector after you select you setting you want. After placing on windshield just level the thing out till it reads 0.00 + or - .05 cuz i never get it to 0.00. Then wait till the meter register GO. It supposedly is setup to read the power spikes in your cigerette lighter plug to dtermine rpm.

How it read 1/4 mile, 0-60, 100-0, and 60-0 I still have no clue

It seems as if it uses GPS to track your speed and distance. then it calculates the rest of the info you get.

the G-tech I have said i ran the 1/4 in 16.79
hp pull 184.

I got the G-tech thata 2" x 2" x .5" black little box that sticks ona velco suction thingy. It has 2 buttons and you adjust it by tilting the thing up or down. It that the same one you got Red?

GPS shouldnt be accurate enough to do this...

It has an accelerometer which combined with a timer can determine all of those stats. Calculates HP? HP/746 = power = work /time = force X distance / time and since d/t = v power equals Force X velocity and Force = mass x acceleration, so since you give it mass and it senses acceleration an it uses the biggest g-force/velo. combo to give you peak HP.
