Who would like to do something like this, since our Aleros are so slow the GA boys should have no problem showing up.
I've been called out but I'm not going alone.
This would happen at either Acto or Rapeway park which are both in NJ. I didn't post anything on GAGT yet, I want to see who would like to go

On second thought you're probably right but still, I love racing and when you post up slpis and they still saying that that's not you that's insane
They couldn't say I was the other car in this case. I raced a 12 second Mustang

Red,
don't take this the wrong way but they are only calling you out because of the whole timing advance issue.
Secondly you basically insulted their cars. I'm not surprised at them being a little bit hostile to you.
I don't think any of them really believe you didnt run that time. With those mods your time is pretty standard.
On that board there are few that know some things, a few who think they know some things, and a bunch of lemmings who just want to be dicks. You dont post there much anyway, you might as well ignore the poop cause I dont think a ga vs alero pissing match is worth your time.

^^Yeah your right, I really didn't like them talking down about the timing issue. Forumla said it the other day about headers causing the car to run lean and I guess that's why the timing was changed.
I understand what they said, but I know some stuff too, and I guess I was just pissed that they keep using the words "Magic Timing" The fact is that timing can be adjusted on any motor, not that is helps every motor. I mean the PCM's that they sell advance timing too.
I still think sc/alero and Oldsman said it best, if it's not a GA, then it can't be done

I'm in a Grand Am Club with my old Alero. That Ecotec used to eat Grand Am's alive and it pissed them off. I could beat any grand am of any year except the 1992-1993 Grand Am H.O. Quad 4's (175HP from a top end screamer is a hard HP difference to make up). Even then they only beat me .1-.2 seconds.
However, there are some fast modded G/A's out there. A friend in my club with very similar mods to you Redog ran a 14.98 in his Grand Am GT 2 Door at the end of last year. It was super cold, but still a good run. He has a 3400 automatic and a , CAI, exhaust from the downpipe back, and might have had his header on by then.
I guess what I am saying is that both cars are similar it is the mods and the driver, not the car. Yuo should run that guy, it would be an awesome race! (but we are in Toronto)

I would love a race like that. Not to show the other guy up but just to have 2 cars neck and neck the entire track and win by a hair or less, now that's a cool race. And the cars are slow enough to enjoy it instead of 2 blurs going by

Well considering my friend who has a 00 GAGT w/ JUST an SLP exhaust (stock intake) runs low 15's and beats me by like 2 carlengths.....I'd say royal ass whomping for the Alero's (unless you find all factory freaks to go).

sounds like you have a dog. An alero and a grand am with equal mods should be pretty close to the same et's. The only thing different for the gt's is they have a different gearing. The differance is not huge though. In fact, the fastest NA ga is an se which has the same gearing as us.
I dont think I would have any problem running with them, but that is way to far for me to drive. ;)

I don't really think it's going to happen anyway. I posted dates that I'm racing in points and nobody has responded yet  I didn't check this morning though
Edit:Just checked, 19 hits, no takers

stock for stock, 3400 vs 3400, they're just a little faster. anyone that says different is in denial. im not saying every gagt is faster than every v6 alero, but in general they're faster. the extra gearing would really help us out (3.05 vs 3.29 for those who dont know, most do). a worthwhile mod if the tranny every poops out on the alero
tranny's can be found for less than 300

But for the 3400 motors in the GA and Alero that is the only difference

If you swap the tranny you will need to swap the pcm as well.

You're talking like a guy reads a lot, but doesn't race a lot. At the track I have seen Aleros' (ok only three of us) and we all beat the grand ams of similar. I don't know if they have heavier body pieces, are less areodynamic or what, but it is true.
Fusion has a 2.4L auto and he beats a 2002 Grand Am with the same set up (and he has a Bodykit on that grand am which actually is lighter then his stock pieces
Blackout has a 3400 V6 and he was beating many Grand am SE's and GT's the one time he went to the track with me
I had a 2.2L 5-speed and I beat the only other ecotec car there (a 2002 Grand Am SE coupe) by a lot. But the 2002 ecotec seems to be down on power for some reason compared to the rest.
Racing based on paper stats is a ricer thing to do. Stats on a car can lie, or not be right. Look at the Old Mitsubishi 3000GT/Dodge Stealth, it should have been an awesome car with its engine/tranny/Drivetrain set up. But the sports cars of its day would kill it on the track. (supra, rx-7, 300ZX, Corvette, 911, etc)

racing on paper stats? omg you guys are just wierd
both cars weigh the same (within a few lbs
both cars have the same exact engine
both cars have the same transmission in general
both cars are built off the same plateform
both cars have the same stats, because they got the drivetrain from the same place.
only one car has a more aggressive final drive ratio
thats complelty different than saying car x with 310hp will always be faster than car y with 300hp
im not talking about racing a eco alero vs a eco grand am, im talking about a 3400 alero vs a 3400 grand am gt
i didnt' say the gagt would win every time, but stock for stock, they are faster in average
saying there the same, or slower is like saying "intake and exhaust do nothing to a car because my friend just did him on his 2001 alero, and i have a 2001 alero and im still faster" its possible, but in general, the modded car is faster
if i switch out my fdr to 3.29, it will be faster, thats obvious, so why wouldn't the gagt be faster to begin with?
jeez

Well the one time that i was at the track I got beat by 1 Gt who had more mods then me. I still have the slip where he beat me by .08 which i think is cause i was scared to break out so i didnt break stand I also had a faster dial in time. I only have a wai he had cai exhaust what else i dont know but could have been more. When i get new tires i will be shure to record the alero stomping on the GA's that arn't boosted.
edit i have gone twice. The first time i went i was running 15.4's pretty constant on 94 octane gas. then i got the lower intake manifold leak and the second time i was out i was running 15.8 constant on 89 octane gas. Next time i am running 94 for sure.

mike2002, I hear what you're saying and putting the GT gears in an Alero will deffinetly make you faster....what I am saying is for some reason Alero's seem faster (with the 3400 V6) on average compared to 3400 GA GT's.
I have no idea why.
mike2002
03-28-2005, 10:04 AM
well, i know alot of people that just "stomp the gas and go" with the more aggressive gearing it would be a little harder to launch
reminds me of this kid i knew in highschool, He had a 97 grandam se w/3100. and lost to a 93 v6 accord coupe. he says "the only reason i lost is because my tires just spun for like 10 seconds because it was raining" and i was like "10 seconds, shouldn't your traction control have kicked in by then?" "i turned it off because it makes the car slower" so when its raining, he turns off his traction control and just floores it in a race, spinning his tires for like 10 seconds....some people are just idiots.
ive been seriously thinking of putting a gagt transmission in my car, ive been looking for a good deal on one, but so far they are either to far away, to high of miles or to expensive. you can find them for 300 if your lucky, then sell your transmission for 175ish and not be out all that much money, of course then you have to put it in.
car would pull harder in every gear.
