No story to tell (yet). Today's the 1st day of the 2005 Sunoco Super Challange Points Series at Raceway Park here in NJ. Gotta get ready to leave in about 15.
Ken and I are all set - well, as set as I'm going to be, having been out past midnight drinking at a nearby bar watching my friend's band "Ted's Frozen Head" play. Don't usually drink or stay out late on race nights but I made an exception last night since I rarely do too well on the 1st points day of the season anyway.
I'm sure Ken will fill you all in this evening on our exploits.

You guys are close - and so was Redog (Ken). His first pass was a 15.007! The track conditions were crap, though. Even though it was mineshaft cold all day, there was an hefty headwind blowing and the first 300 feet of the track surface had been redone over the winter so all of the good rubber that is normally there had to be rebuilt by us racers. Ken never got that close again in his subsequent runs - instead running in the 15-teens.
I had my trusty stock '93 Daytona ES with 168,8xx miles on the original stock engine. She was running a full .1-.2 seconds slower in the 60' than usual and .2-.4 slower top-end relative to this same weather last year. I was also experiencing some major bogging/pulling/wheel spin or something pulling around the water box and off the line. Maybe the car was just "rsuty" from not having been raced since last Halloween and had to clear itself out (though I have been driving it every other week).
Ken had his first real taste of success in the points series getting all the way to 3rd round before losing. That was better than some of the heavy hitters in our class did yesterday.
I didn't do too shabby either, finally losing in the semi-finals to one of the track regulars who has been racing largely in the faster Heavy ET class. My run to the semi's wasn't too easy either as I had to go through some of the heavier hitters in the class.
IMO, the top points racers in Street ET are (in order):
Brian Mullaney
Joe Morena
Joe Amodea
John Hedenburg
me (gotta be truthful here)
Though the actual marginal difference in ability between each of us is actually very small. Some of us just have better cars than others or race more often, but generally our racing abilities are on par with each other on any given Sunday. A few other equally heavy hitters have recently moved up to Heavy ET due to either the increased payouts, their car not fitting into Street ET rules anymore, or some other reason.
Yesterday, I had to go through Hedenburg first round and Morena 3rd round. Hedenburg is the closest to me in racing style and ability so runs against him are always tough. In the semis, I race Curtis Taylor, Jr., a former Street ET racer gone Heavy ET. He was running both classes yesterday, as were quite a few guys (though you can only be signed up for points in 1 class, I think). I had problems getting off the line, which resulted in a piss-poor RT, but I was running closer to my number than Curtis. He ended up sqeaking past me for the victory. The margin of victory?
0.0041 seconds! Or put another way: 41 ten-thousandths of a second.
I might have given up the victory to him, too, as I think I might have tapped the brakes too hard as we both got to the finish line, thinking I was ahead slightly. That would suckif that turns out to be the case. Curtis went on to lose in the Finals to another points racer - Jose Colon. Jose finished 2 points ahead of me for the points lead and I am at least 1 or 2 point ahead of the next closest behind me.
Jose and his brother Ted are middle tier drivers who've had a small amount of success. Jose's the more talented and successful of the 2 - which is like saying Milwaukee's the more successful team between the Brewers and Expos. Still, he is in first place (for the moment).
I walked away with $50 for my troubles. Winning the Street ET Finals get's you $200, a large trophy, and a gold class winner sticker. Runner-up gets $100 & a smaller trophy.

This is true, I now have more points than I did last season (the entire season)
The Head wind was very strong and we saw an 8 or 9 second Vega lose it off the line and go down 3/4 of the track on it's roof. It was a scary sight but the man got out and walked away. In fact the car didn't look that bad. A little bit of sheet metal and the car will be back on the track soon
As for me.
first run was a 15.007 @ 88.28 MPH Best time to date, but still disappointed that 14's didn't happen. I still believe 14's are there, just not yesterday
2nd run. Good story acutally I took the left lane, which I suck in <_< Tried to stage, the car rolls deep, back up, try to stage, car rolls deep, while backing up the lights come down. I jam the tranny into "3" and slam on the gas while still going backwards  A lot of wheel spin and a .700 light. The funny thing is that the SRT-4 I was racing put out a .559 light and 14.520 ET I put down a .700 light and a 15.232 @ 89.37 MPH (best MPH to date) time. If I would have put down a better light. I would have won and made ricer boy cry. I still stayed right with him thought, I have the tape to prove it
1st round of points - Raced a riced out 300Z I let jammed the brakes at the end because he didn't run his 12.70 dial. I ran a 15.231 @ 75.16 MPH. I also had a .034 light to his .478 light
2nd round - I raced the princess of the track. She was driving a Mazda 6 and dialed a 16.35. A little riced out Civic Si drug all kinds of water up to the line so now I'm pissed. My lights come down and I hit the gas. I had a .130 light and just lit up the wheels, I hit 65 at the starting line, the car even shifted. At the 60 foot I finally get traction and I start cruse out the ricer. I can't catch up to her at all. But she broke out  This was a 16.106 @ 87.58 run
3rd round - Up agaisnt an old skool Duster that dials at 12.30. I go. Perfect launch. flying down and the duster spun up off the line. I got it. I'm watching him. I'm trying to stay ahead. I look at my speed and I'm going 91, poop!!!! I gotta slow down. Too late. I ran a 15.079 @ 87.38 on a 15.11 dial :( Probably was a another 15 flat run or maybe 15.02
I have yet to make it past 3rd round, but 3rd round in points is a first for me. So I happy

Ken,
Turns out the guy you lost to was the same guy I lost to - Curtis Taylor, Jr. He mentioned about getting lucky against a red car a few rounds before our match-up but it wasn't until you just confirmed the look of the car that I know it was Curtis that beat you.

If the track wasn't so crappy, he absolutely would have been in the 14's on at least 1 run if not more.

He got lucky for sure
He spun off the line bad, I saw his rear end slipping out a bit and I thought "Man I got this" but a didn't slow down in enough time and broke out <_<

Pretty sweet reddog, what exactly are all of your mods?
RSM P&P upper and lower manifold
RSM 62 mm TB
ACDelco Rapid fires
Accel extreme 9000 8mm wires
Dr Speed CAI (use only at the track converted to WAI for daliy use)
S&S Headers and Cat
SLP full Cat-back Exhaust
Oversized Alt pulley
Lightened Water pump pulley
RSM lightened Crank Pulley
I also have a Casper high speed fan switch to keep things cool between runs and my Kazera Wheels are only 18 lbs each (25 with tires) I know they aren't speed mods but they help. I also take out my fender liner and left fog light for racing. Much better air flow

The only other new things added to the above list is the Headers and Crank pulley. I was running 15.24 with everything else

Too bad they put that watermark over the front of the pic when they post them. They used to forget or put it down in a corner where you could crop it out when you saved the image to your hard drive.

Yeah if I wasn't going backwards and cut a .700 light I would have beat him easy. I wouldn't have beat him outright though

The pics are there. Since they only fit a few photos on a page you have to hit the right arrow quite a few times to get to our pics.
Here's a more direct link to the pics:
www.davemilcarek.com/031305/index.htm (http://www.davemilcarek.com/031305/index.htm)
Where it says "Page 1 of 33" you'll see a little gray arrow pointing to the right. click on that until you come to Page 5 for Ken and Page 26 for me.

Nice time Red Dog. You are pretty close to where you should be. I think the best NA times over on the grandamgt are 14.8+. Considering you got that on your first run I would guess you could break 15 soon.
Ill actually get mine to the track late april early may to see how we compare. More than likely I still won't have my final installs done.
