so here's the deal. My Brother's 2002 ecotec alero's exhaust split down the center due to a factory defect, the only thing holding it together are the krimped corners. His car is having serieous back pressure issue because of this and it needs a replacment ASAP. He said that if it possible he will let me give him my muffler off my 2001 3400 car, I dont tsee any difference between muffleres between the 3400 and the ecotec, and he will buy me a new one for a budget up to 120 bucks.

Here's what I need to know.

1. Is this somthing I can do without any welding?

2. If so what should I get to replace my muffler. With this budet I cant afford anything like an SLP with the nice mandrel bent piping that comes with it. That mean I would be hooking up anything I get directly to the factory pipes. Would a flowmaster 40 or 80 be a good choice? How much would each cost?

3. Also if I get a flowmaster that hooks up to my existing exhaust system will I be able to buy the mandrel bent SLP pipes later and hook it up to the flowmaster muffler.

I know there are tons of subjects on the sight about this but I dont have the time to research this all as my Bro woudl like to order the new muffler tommorow if at all possiable and I need to catch some sleep tonight. Any reply's and advice would be appreciated.

I THINK the exhaust should swap right over, just look at both of them for a comparison, as for the flowmasters, I have a 40 series and it sounds awesome, if you get an 80 series it should be able to replace an slp muffler, i think they are the same design?

Alright, Im sure the stock 3400 2.2 muffler is the same so that should be no problem. Im going to order a 40 series since its cheaper. It should work out pretty well I think. All I want to be sure of is there is no reason why I couldnt swap the mufflers myself as long as Im not replacing anything upstream of the muffler itself right?

come on guys I need someone who to just confirm for me that I can swap the muffelrs over to my bro's car. I know its the same muffler but can it be done without any welding with some stands and hand tools? Also I know the stock pipe is 2.25 inches so I know the flowmaster 40 Im getting can hook up to that but whats the difference between the different models of the flow master 40?

I need to order it tonight. Please respond doon.

The exhaust pipe is welded to the muffler. When I installed my SLP exhaust the only way I saw to get the stock system off was to cut it around the rear suspension area. So if u wanted to just swap the mufflers, I would think you would have to cut it off and have it welded on.
