View Full Version : How Do You Guys Jack Up Your Lowered Cars?

Is it just me, or do jacks NOT fit under a lowered alero. i dropped mine with spring tech springs, and i have a "low profile" floor jack, a really nice one, sits at least a inch lower than my dads regular floor jack. the only way it fits, is if i have my dad lift the front end of my car while i push it under. and its hard to lift having such stiff suspension

i tried getting ramps, no luck. the only ramps i see that would fit are for like corvettes, and they are over $200

im thinking of making ramps out of 2x12's. put one like 5', then a 4' on that, then 3', 2', then 1'. no way it could ever break, but they'd be big and HEAVY

what do you guys do?

I have the 1.75" drop and I have not had problems with a stock jack. What size are your wheels and tires?

I too have ST springs, 2 inches (maybe more) drop. I drive up on a couple 2x10's and then put the jack under.

stock wheels and tires (225/50/16) i could drive up on some boards, then jack it up, i just really like the idea of ramps for stuff like changing oil. kinda wish i didn't lower it SO much....lol

Ramps will work, I use them too. put a couple 3 foot boards at the end, make the incline more gradual.

You guys dropped more than 2 inches on springs...."You're crazy, I like you but you're crazy man" :D

Yeah, my Intrax dropped to about 2 inches, and these ST springs are for sure lower.

Mines lowered only 1.25 inches but I've never had a problem with a jack.

I do bottom out a bit on the ramps though <_<

I also bought the SpringTech Springs that are supposed to drop the car 1.75 inches. They dropped it well over 2 inches. I can't fit a low profile jack under the car with my side skirts on. I have to lift it with the stock jack then slide the other one under. It's a pain but I like the look so I dont mind. I also have to get a new exhaust in the spring because i scraped it so much bottoming out.

Besides the slot under the cars for the jacks, where else on the Alero is it safe to Jack up? Could you, or should you, do it inbetween the wheels to jack one side up at the time (if one has a jack strong enough to hold the weight).

^ you would have balance issues. a majority of the wieght is on the front of the car (just as a reminder...lol. I know you KNEW that)

no doubt that you could experiment with the spot. I would guess it would be on that same rail, but at about the middle of the door (2door) or at the front door's handle (4dr).

I'm gonna toss that around *not the car*... see if I can find one... and then see if the jack can do it...

for the front i have to drive up on two sets of 2x4's before i can get my jack under my car....and it still has to be in the perfect spot otherwise it won't fit....for the rear i just jack the car up right in the middle with some 2x4's on top of the jack, then i can just lift up the whole rear. In the front i can only do one side at a time

Yeah, its crazy.

Should read up more here. Most of the intrax/ST springs dropped 2 inches or more.

let see i have lift the front up and have someone slide jack under or i normally go from behind tire and jack up and factory location and put a couple bricks or 2x4's under frame and then put jack uber frame and jack up. it is a pain but damn i love these coilovers.

i have mini ramps i bought. just enough to get the low profile jack under. im dropped like 3-4 inches.

i always jack my car up in the front/middle. never really have any balance issues. 1 side always raises a LITTLE more. i just jack it as high as it will go, then let it down on some jack stands, so when im working under it, its level (and safe)

instead of buying $$$$ low profile ramps, im just going to build some outta 2x12's, i want to use green treated for obvious reasons, but that stuffs HEAVY,maybe it wont be solid...lol

With the intrax, I was able to get the craftsman floor jack I had under the front of the car, but just barely.
