my kyb/sprintech combo deystroyed my strut mounts. I read on grandamgt.com that theyre designed wrong, and there should be a spacer below the nut. so i finally got ahold of kyb last week, he said he'd call me back, 1 week later i call back and spoke to someone else, who knew about the problem. they are re-designing the nut, unfortanatly the "head guy" is on vacation, and he not only cant send me the nut or spacer, he cant give me compensation for new mounts, they do MAKE strut mounts, i feel since there struts deystroyed my mounts, i should at the very least, get them at cost, if not for free. aparantly he said if i was to purchase the washers, id need about 5 flat washers (11ish mm).

so now i have to wait till the 3rd when the guy gets back to speak with him.

im not very pleased with kyb, if this is how they handle problems that are there fault, i wont buy there products anymore.

I totally agree Mike, that's b.s. If it's truly their product's fault, they need to atleast help you with your situation, if not that, then take care of it completely for you. <_<

Dave from High Rev Motorsports installed my KYB struts and noticed this problem before the install so him and I ran to ACE Hardware and found some metal spacers (i think 3/4") that worked PERFECT....just an idea/temp. solution.

this is what he recommended i do, but my mounts are already gone, so its pointless untill i get new mounts.

did there washers go ON TOP of the mount, but below the 1 big nut? so if you open the hood, and look at the strut towers, you can see them? this guy wasn't really specific on where they went, but thats what i figure. he told me 11.3mm, which is just under 1/2". any way you could try to measure yours? see what it is?

thanks.....i want to hold out a little bit, see if they will at least give me a discount on mounts before i fix it.

troy from kyb called me today. i guess kyb's new strut mount compensate for this spacer they're built in, so with there strut mounts there is no need for the spacer, but he said there should have been 1/2" spacers with my struts

did anyone get 1/2" metal spacers with there struts? i have a feeling they relized that and for obvious reasons they cant "admit" it, but either way, they are now correcting the problem

i didn't spacers. anyways, kyb is shipping me NEW STRUT MOUNTS FOR FREE! he's the head guy i guess, for the struts. he said he could see how without that spacer it would ruin my strut mounts, so he is sending me new strut mounts.

pretty awesome KYB is stepping up to the plate and giving me new ones, not many companies would do that nowdays, especially since they weren't profesionally installed.

i should get them saturday or monday, he's sending them ups :D

WHO here installed there kyb's and had a spacer?

Who didn't have a spacer?

I had KYB's installed, but I have no clue how to do something like that so they were professionally done.

The dealer told me that my strut mounts were bad, but I went somewhere else and they told me they weren't lol

I just bought KYB's yesterday, and I'll be getting them put in on the weekend....I'm glad I read this beacuse I'll be sure to get the spacers put in. Is it just the fronts that need them?

im guessing just the fronts, i really dont know. test fit the mount on the strut, without the spring. even without the spring it should be a tight fit, the mount shouldn't move up and down. if the spring is in, it provides tension and it will be a tight fit, untill you hit a bump.

let me know what you find, im curious about the rears. i know some people say they here a clunk from the rear when they hit bumps, that may be why. also, do you have a spacer with your kyb's for the front? regular washers should work if you dont.

I'll get them today or tomorrow.....I get that clunk now in my rear, but thats because I have the stock struts in there that are too long for the lowered car.

Ok, got them put in yesterday...and right away we saw the problem you described. The stock nut the struts came with has a built on spacer of 11.3mm. The one sent out with the KYB's does not. The stock nut will not thread onto the KYB struts either.

Our best solution was to use another nut of similar thickness, drill out the threads, and put in on as a spacer. This seemed to solve the problem for sure.

And the back struts have no spacer on the stock nut. the stock nut looks identical to the KYB nut.

I love these struts!!!!

im a little confused. so your kyb nut, did NOT have a built in washer? mine did but it sure as heck isn't a 1/2", maybe a 1/8" also, the threads on my kyb strut seem to go all the way down, about 3/8" from the bottom.

did your stock mounts have a built in spacer? my new kyb ones have a brass spacer about a 1/2", but i think my stock mounts may have had that too maybe with this spacer in the stock mount, that takes the place of the extra long nut that you have for you stock shocks

how much "thread" is from the top of the nut, to the kyb strut shaft? ive got a little thread left., about 1/3"

ok, my KYB nut did have a small small spacer, but not as big as the sotck nut's spacer. So that is why we used a different nut along with the kyb nut to make up the difference.

I had my performance shop put them in, so I don't know how much thread is left.....but I felt the strut myself and it is solid.
