I thought everyone might want to see what I've been up to on my car.
I've been working my ass off at my full time job to pay for this stuff as well as selling many of my old parts and using moeny from my hail damage.
mastercard loves me :(
the new shifter is mounted in the car. my trans will be done this week.

oh yeah and where did you get that flywheel!? i didnt know they had flywheels for the 3.4 thought we had flexplates. (i probably have no idea what im talking about) im guessing that flywheel has something to do with your manual transmission right?

I love all the questions :D Good luck with the car John, she's gonna scream. Just from the pic it looks like ASE did a nice job blending the ports on those heads.
In case he doesn't get back to reply, here's a series of answers:
No they never made a manual tranny for our 3.4 powered cars an option , Yes, that's a manual he's working on, and lastly, yes, automatics have flex plates and not flywheels.

depending on which manual tranny you go with, wont you have clearance issues with the xover and bellhousing?
btw, not a bad mod list you have for yourself.
and how are you going to hook up a turbo to that or are you going S/C

Thats a lot of hardware... those head ports look a lot better than stock....you just need a proper cam to go with them :P

as far as i know, john is a s/c guy, so im pretty sure he is gonna stick with a s/c cause thats what hes always used, except a turbo would be good with the manual tranny so only he knows

I like instant power.
turbos are cool and I still want to play with one some time. I just cant stand lag. and turbos still take power to make power, but there is no way arround the exhaust restriction they create. There are ways to lessen drag on the engine from a supercharger.
that and too many people have turbos arround here
I've never owned one and the sound of them is old to me.
I figure I'm taking a car that gets little respect on the streets and wiping the smerk off their face, I might as well use a power adder that gets little respest.
not many people have messed with twin screw sc's
they are fairly new to the automotive industry. but what I've seen I love.

uhh i believe there are plenty of turbos and supers for the ecotec. the ecotec has the biggest aftermarket.

John,
Nice to see you are finally getting to the finish line on all the work you been putting into it. :D
Did you end up oversizing both valves? and by how much?
I hope TOG's new ceramic coating is better than what they used to use. The old coating, or at least the batch I got mine from, seemed like it had impurities that caused minor rust.

a screw supercharger...isn't that what the millenia S's had? that was one powerful engine for being 2.3L.
i was thinking the same thing, i see v6 headers, a clutch, flywheel.......awesome, to bad gm only put a stick to the smaller engine, alero could have been a pretty fast car with a 3400/5 speed

I am trying to rebuild my engine and was wondering about what works in terms of upgrading engine internals on 3.4L
I am looking for:
Camshaft and its specs
Valves and their specs
Valve Springs & Retainers and their specs
Rocker Arms and their specs
Pistons and Rings and their specs
Rods and their specs
Lifters and their specs
I am also wondering how much over on bore I should go and about the heads. Can you please post some recommended engine internals specs as well as vendors? Thanks.

JE is who did my pistons they are totally custom being that my motor is now stroked
rods are modified small block chevy
you cant bore the engine too much because stock its pretty close to max.
www.60v6.com has some good info
www.j-bodyperformance.com has some internals that will work
much of what I've done is custom, one off, or modified from another application

I've talked to a few people because axles are a concern of mine
the axles has to be custom built anyway since the V6 never came with a manual.
the inner joints are from a 94 cavalier the have to be hardend and use chromolly guts. The physical shaft I'm not sure yet, they may be modded auto's or they may be from like a 92 grand prix 3.1 5 speed. Just whatever fits the bill on length.
outer joints is where things break.
so I plan on using cadilac outer joints because they are the strongest factory joints made.
this requires custom hubs and a few other things

john where didyou get the pedal setup and shifter at?
Also interested in the pricing for all this, and how difficult it is to install in a car that originally had an automatic :) [/b][/quote]
well if you really want to know. I went over kill on many items
all is new and I got dealer level discounts on most.
pedals were $75 my cost with the rod for the mastercylinder too
clutch master cylinder was $127.96 also my cost
basic shifter with console piece was like $150 from a friend with a connection
cables were arround $90 they come as one piece
the doner V6 manual trans was $275 shipped to the shop
the aluminum flywheel was $278 my cost ( I've seen them retail for almost 400)
the 4 puck ceramic clutch was just shy of 600 at cost from a friend
slave cylinder was included with the clutch.
I then found a trans that was set up for a quad 4 that had 3.94 final drive ratio, close ratio gears, and the extremely rare limited slip diff for $1800
took it and my orignal box to the trans shop.
had the gears cryo-hardend as well as the shafts this was $300
it was $500 to swap parts and do new bearings and seals
not cheap but I wanted to make sure I wouldnt break anything with my projected power output.

wow thats an expensive tranny, but i guess when u wanna hit those high HP levels that ur shooting for, price is second to quality and reliability.

exactly. I'd like to get some miles at of this too though
you could honestly do it for lots cheaper
I've talked to a few people abouyt this trans
turbo Z24 is prolly pushing 400 hp at the wheels on his car and all that has broke was his diff.
if you go with the limited slip unit like i have that problem is gone
gm also had a FWD salt flats car Q4 powered that made 400+ hp and did 200+ mph on a stock box.
also if you compare what I've spent to the built autos there is not much difference
