there seems to be a small chip on my windshield... does anyone know how much those cost to repair... or if it's worth it?

A chip? I know there's those little crack-fillers, but I'm not sure if they're good for chips.. I think they're like 6 bucks or something. Down here, you can take it to JiffyLube and they'l fix it free.

up here in the cold country where there are a lot of gravel roads, the insurance people recommend that you do take it to the local body shop and they will fill it with some kind of clear window repair stuff. they install it under some preasure device and try to inject the goop into the fissures. This is supposed to releive the stress on the glass that will eventually turn the unrepaired "chip" into a creeping crack. We use it all the time. The insurance company pays for it cause its cheaper then replacing the cracked windshield.

^That's what the $6 kit buys, but you do it yourself. Super easy.

check with your insurance company, i know that if i get a little chip or a little whole, they will fill the hole using an autoglass repair company of my chosing for free! They figure its better to pay the 40 or so to fix it than to buy a whole new windshield a few months later, so call them first

Here they gravel the roads so much that glass insurance is seperate. Its a couple hundred bucks a year, and its a $200 deductable (alero windshield replacements run about $220) so you have to go through 2 a year to make it worth while

Thats why I just pay the $6 instead.

i got a small chip in the bottom drivesside of my windshield when i got my car in 2000. I just put a sticker over it, and it hasn't spread or anything in 4 years. I think i'm prolly just lucky tho, even with the extreme temperatures!

if you get it filled or what not, will you still be able to see it... or will it just stop it from spreading and getting worse?

No, when you fix it properly with the suction cuppy pressure tool and resin stuff, all the cracks are filled and virtually disappear.

so can you do that yourself... if so how hard is it and how much is all the stuff
if not... how much is it to get it done?

Go to Jiffy Lube and they'll fix it free. Or go to Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, (whatever stores you guys have up in MI) and buy a little kit for $6. There's directions on the package you can read before you buy it, so you can decide if you wanna do it or have Jiffy Lube do it.

I had a chip in mine for ages. When it finally broke that's not even where it started. Right now I'm driving with a busted windshield because I don't want to shell out the $160 to replace it.
Anyway... around here there's tons of places that have 'free glass chip repair' all the time. They set up in parking lots and stuff. Most glass places will do it free or less than $20.
