alright i have installed a wai, and about to get my pacesetter header with 2.5 inch piping into a flowmaster 80 series muffler. are the gains gonna be noticable and will i be happy like i'm hoping i will? do you think i will be able to beat my brothers gagt with no mods?

You will notice a small difference pretty much just in sound. Beating his GA GT is possible depends what year he has if he has a later 90's one with a 2.3 HO motor I would so no but if he just has the 3400 then you got a pretty good chance.

the later 90's with the 2.3 H.O are faster than the newer ones? thats new news to me. well actually he has a 99 gagt which is the H.O and a 00 gagt which is the ram air version. and if i notice just the sound and a little performance than whats the point in a $300 exhaust and $280 header and $215 intake?

Mine as well throw nitrous on for those prices.

well i really never go to the track and its only an 1/8 mile. and i figured exhaust, header and intake were the 3 cheapest things that would add horsepower and be able to notice a performance difference and sound. not just looks which i like having these three things when someone asks me or looks, but to be able to show them i can run with the rest of them

unfortunately the only free horsepower is a $500 nitrous kit, otherwise its throw a couple grand down to get any decent gains in HP, gotta have the exhaust to go with the intake, gotta have both intake and exhaust manifolds for gains there (if u keep one stock, then the flow will still be the same as if both were stock cause ones restrictive over the other) umm larger throttle body, etc....sucks having to throw that much down but then again, if it was only a couple hundred then everyone would have an 8 second car

really, you think the 2.2 could take the 3400? Let me know when...in fact i'll meet you in the spring and we'll find out for sure at the track here in pittsburgh

I know there are guys on here with the 2.2 that are faster then the 3400 and have time slips to prove it.

i know bdyman has a few performance mods like the ones i have, but he said hes not much into racing so i dont know what he runs and who he can beat. and i really dont know many other people on here with mods like that so if any of you do and wanna relay some info just post.

Ok, so just having a CAI and a cat-back exhaust WILL make a difference. A Throttle body is not needed until you start messing with turbos or engine internals (you computer will automatically re-calculate you air fuel mixture with the freer flow). Don't believe me look at my 1/4 mile times. I don't even have the header on my car (yet). My Intake manifold is stock too. A Big help that most don't realize is have lowering springs too. This helps out on launch because there is less body roll/movement to the back end since there is soo much less suspension travel.

The 2.2 CAN be faster then a 3400. I can easily beat a stock 3400 and even a few modified ones. The last time I was at the strip, the only 3400 to beat me had a CAI, Cat-back exhaust, Throttle body and high flow cat. He ran a 14.9 while I did a 15.2. During my other clubs track day (a grand am grand prix club) The two fastest grand ams were 2.3L high output 1993 grand ams. (15.33 and 15.40) Then there was me with a 15.50 then the three 3400 grand ams (CAI catback and heavy body kit) 15.53 (stock) 15.61 (wai, high mileage) 15.68.

The later 1990'S Quad 4's are slow and useless. The 2.4 version sucked monkey balls. The 1990-1993 H.O. (and W31 for a lucky few) were fast as hell and can run 15.12 with a CAI and Catback exhaust (in the super cold weather.)

well on my car i have the 5 spd i have a custom cai, headers, high flow cat, full 2.5" exhaust including the custom cat back, lowered with sprint springs, suspensin tech struts, and a b&m short throw shifter.. my buddy has a 99 alero with the 3400 motor in it he has cai and cat back exhaust and i would smoke him untill he got a computer chip and now he shifts a little better so he beats but not by much

Yeah, that is what I noticed with the Grand Prix GT's. I smoke ones stock or with mods.....until they get DHP and can re program their shift points and red lines.....then they squeak by me <_<
