View Full Version : Wai Question

Alright, I finally got the wai today that I ordered like.. 10 days ago. It's for a 2.4 Cavy but as people have said before, it will fit. Anyway, I'm having trouble with the battery. Has anyone had to relocate their battery in order to get a wai to fit? I'm prolly gonna get laughed at for putting it like this, but at this point, I really don't care...I've been up since 7 last night and need to get this done soon so I can go to bed. I don't know what it's called but imagine you're putting jumper cables on the battery.. the thing you hook the cables to, it is sticking out too far. Could I get a smaller one or what? Any help will be sooo greatly appreciated... Thanks.

And Brad, I didn't want a cai because of all the rain we get around here. Already had about 10 inches in the past 3 days.. sorry!!

It shoudl look like this when is all done.http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/3/web/435000-435999/435315_106_full.jpg
It should just hook to your TB with the 90 degree and then have a nut to hold it up on the Power steering resevior.

Marie, if the other guys say it'll fit, i gotta assume they're right. WORSE-case scenario, you might try buying another battery. They make replacements that have the terminal posts on top, instead of the sides. Just make sure the cables going to the battery would be long enough, should you choose to purchase another battery.
Good Luck dear. :)

Thats exactly how mine hooked up and also you may have to kinda tug the wires for the sensor to go into the spot.

instead of tugging on the wires, cut the loom/tape a lil for more slack...theres way less chance of pullin somethin you don't want to ;)

I didn't know you could take the posts off...isn't that a bad idea? I thought for sure it would leak.

They splice out of the main wiring harness I wouldnt cut the loom unless you are really handy with a knife. THe wires do reach but not good or you can get the Extension from PFYC.

Um, hey you guys.. I just looked at mine (for the first time) and by comparing with the two pics posted on here, mine dosen't look like that... I drove it about half a mile and it sounded good but still, it doesn't look anything like Pats does or vtolds... I know it's dirty and I gotta cover the battery terminals up.. but what do you guys think?
Youngblood77
12-07-2004, 09:55 PM
Make DAMN sure that the positive terminal on the battery can't touch or arc on the intake, ok? Other than that, it looks fine Marie, good job.

Don't let the positive terminal touch the pipe... SPARKS! WEEE!

Thanks guys. ^ & Eric, I just now put the cover over the terminal and made sure it's not gonna come off. It's kinda hard to work on it with it being dark out.. and colder than a witches titty but I'll get a better look at it tomorrow and some more pics. I was just afraid that it wasn't right cause it doesn't look like the others on here (pat and vtolds).
And Jon, do it. Man, I love how it sounds. I couldn't really "get on it" to see how much of a differene it made cause the roads out here in the boonies are extremely wet but I'll try her out when I go to work tonight. Now I just can't wait until my other "noise maker" gets here tomorrow!! ;)

Thank you :)
I can't really take any credit here. Sure, I bought it, took the stock air box out and all that, but my Dad did all the other stuff. I think he did a fine job seeing how he's never done anything like that before and didn't even need instructions. I love my Daddy :)
edit, didn't see smokins post. splurge, where I come from, means spending money that you may not have.

i have the same intake as the other guys:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/428000-428999/428155_26_full.jpg
you should splurge and get the same one with the full tubing right to the throttle body. you can get them pretty cheap on ebay...i did...just look up a 2.4 cavy intake. sounds a lot better with that intake resonator box removed...plus it'll fit a lot better.

Oh ok.. so that's what was missing from the other pics in comaprison to mine. I may have to check into it but I've spent soo much money in the past 2 weeks as it is. Might have to put that on the back burner for now but thanks for the tip! :)

Yeah the only difference between the rest of ares and yours Marie is ares is the full pipe I dont think your being only half will affect performance, looks good. BTW mine is the Pro Car Parts intake cost about 30 bucks, Iam sure you paid more So NANANANANANA.
cutelilcntrygrl
12-08-2004, 07:26 AM
Well if you must know........... I only paid 25 bucks for mine. So there. Besides, I'm not all into the performance crap like everyone else. I just want it to sound good, which it does so I am happy with it.

i still like my CAI a lot better. especially with the wistle. and when i went from the weapon R to the ID CAI there was definitley a good gain.

Oldsman, I wish I could get my engine bay as clean as yours. How do you do it?
And I am gonna upgrade to the ID CAI when it warms up outside. I really considered it when I bought this one, but we've had soo much rain and it's expected to be the worst winter we've had in a long time. So I just didn't want to take any chances screwing my car up. I just noticed that whistle tonight... it's rather annoying but I won't care after I get my speakers hooked up and my new muffler put on this weekend. :D
Oh and thanks Ken ;)

Lots of TLC i guess. actually i used gunk and CD-2 Engine detailer. And about every other time i wash the car I wash the motor too.
Well with the CAI i drove it for a winter with no problem. The main thing is you have to remember it is there and avoid all suspected big water puddles. For the winter it isn't that hard to make the ID a WAI just need another filter.

What about car washes? I'm probably gonna swap my AEM for a CAI in January or Feb. Which one do you suggest me getting?
Oldsman
12-09-2004, 09:10 PM
car washs? well np ever. but yet being that i know that the filter is down there, i don't shot water down past the fog light. i always aimed it at a down ward angle.
The people who have problems with CAI are the ones who don't pay attention and are always remembering it is there.

the only CAI really available is the ID CAI. i know APOC did a couple but never seen much more of the cai.

i would go with the ID intake or AEM, that cheap ebay intake isnt going to do much for you, plus its really close to your battery.
Oh and heres my intake since everyone is showing theirs off.

12-13-2004, 12:23 AM
Yeah, I'm gonna get the AEM probably. Might not be until spring tho. And actually, I can tell a big difference in how the car picks up speed now and the sound is awesome. I find myself turning my stereo down really low now when I'm driving just to hear it.
