Slightly Sticky Thottle Cable?

Ok last night this little honda was going down my road doing 25 in a 40 :angry: So I reved my engine up in Neutral to try to get them to move, well it took about 30 seconds for it to come back down from 5000 rpms to about 2000 rpms then I put it back in gear. What you guys think?

you're engine is never gonna go from 5000rpm back to 2000rpm in 2 seconds

Ever take physics? An object in motion will tend to stay in motion, unless acted upon by a force. That force would be friction. Since you want to reduce that in an engine, there isn't much. So things keep spinning, which is what "neutral" is. Nothing is engaged. So:
#1: duh.
#2: don't do that.

yea thats true, but from 5,000 rpm down to 2,000 rpm it doesnt take 30 seconds give or take some im sure, in gear its going to come down slower say in ur 2nd gear and u get up to 5 and let off, it will take a while to get back down to 2........but in neutral, it isnt instantaneous but it should be a lot quicker than that.......check that your throttle cable isnt stick anywhere, get some to push on the cable and check the throttle connection at your throttle body.....

well i know mine does something like this. If driving or coasting and you put it into N and rev it you can hit 6500.

I did that a couple times and when you do this it seems to sit at that rpm and goes down slowy. if this is what you mean then it is normal and don't do it anymore.

I'm sure what your trying to say is more to do with the throttle cable being a little sticky. Because I know that the Alero has enough compression to slow the revs down a lot quicker than that. It should be around 2 seconds in neutral.

maybe not two seconds but not thirty, especially at the speeds he was going i cant imagine it taking 30 seconds, if that happened to me id be freaking out too......

i wonder if he has heard of WD-40??????? might want to try it if it is really sticky.

does it stick any other time or just when you do that?
