I REALLY want to put them on this weekend, but my dad and my brother might be working on remodeling our kitchen. But if I can't get them on this weekend, i''m considering going to get my car dynoed before I put them on just for everyone to finally know what exactly these will do. Its pretty expensive. $100 so i'm gonna be dropping a quick $200 just to see what the difference is with S&S Headers. Still kind of undecided, but I would like to know the numbers for myself, and to benefit everyone else who may be header shopping.

I will try and keep everyone as informed on the whole header process as possible, cause I know I would have appreciated lots of info when I was header shopping, so stay tuned for details in the near future

So are these about the same quality as TOG headers?

This is my next upgrade, and if its only 600bones shipped I'm closer than I thought!

Well, im not going to spark another S&S vs TOG debate, so let me just say the facts.
I have never seen TOG headers in person, so I will not say anything about TOG quality. My S&S look and feel to be very good quality. The coating on them looks perfect. As far as the power difference, I can't say cause I havnt installed them yet, and it looks like I wont be able to get them on for another week or so ( :( )
In the meantime however, since I am going to be waiting so long, I am going to try and get a base dyno test, and then another dyno after installation.
As far as price, that is what I paid for them on 10-19-2004, at the time that I ordered them, they informed me that prices would be going up, due to increases in steel costs. How much they have gone up, I can not say. Either way, no matter what brand header you get, im sure that the quality is great, and the performance is also great. Good luck

when you install them, id put a 2.5" highflow cat on there too....stock is 2.5", try to get a single brick one, last one i got off ebay was only like $45

where did you order your headers from?

I just checked the S&S website and they are almost $900.00 now?

S&S headers (https://ssl10.mysecureserver.com/bosstoolscom/store/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=547)

It's $499.95 for JUST the coated headers only...that $900 price is for headers, flex, and cat.....save your money and don't get the cat from S&S they want like $250+ for it...get just the Headers and Downpipe.

SilverBullet256
11-30-2004, 09:06 PM
so should i get a high flow cat from somewhere else or do i not really need one?, i was gonna get the headers, then get all the piping redone to 3 inch, and then get a better flowmaster setup in the back(dont ask, long story) and then that would be a really good exhaust

1WhiteOSV
12-01-2004, 12:33 AM
do a 2 1/2" header back setup...2 1/2" cat..SLP exhaust (better than Flowmaster...trust me I've had both) and you'd be set to go. Catco makes pretty good cats for us.

SilverBullet256
12-01-2004, 11:07 PM
so to get just the headers and the flewpipe, do you have to call the company to order them?

Wildman
12-02-2004, 01:53 AM
yes, very easy. Just call the number on the site, and tell them what you want. Dont know what the current prices are. ANYWAYS. UPDATE!
Looks like my brother and dad are NOT going to help me at all to put on my headers !! I know a guy at a Midas that my store deals with, he said he'd put them on himself on the side for $150. Thats nice and all, but that means that I'm going to have to forefit the dyno :( cause I just don't have the money right now to do both. I am very disapointed right now......
more updates later :(

None that are very mechanically inclined. Plus I need to weld the flex pipe to my cat. I have never touched the welder in our garage, other than to move it out of the way, so I cant do this.

Nice. Let me know how you like them. I have a set too

I didn't get the gaskets with mine though :(

SilverBullet256
12-02-2004, 09:38 PM
the only problem i have come across with getting them, is that naich brought to my attention that they might make my slp exhaust that im switching to, too loud, what do you guys think?

Redog
12-02-2004, 10:15 PM
Keep that Flowmaster 80 on there, it will be loud but sound nice

SilverBullet256
12-02-2004, 10:29 PM
well im going for max hp for one, i had the pipe setup i have now, and i wanna redo the whole exhaust system, unlike i had done before, so im just gonna go with the complete slp catback system, which as ive heard is just as loud as the flowmaster 80, just a different tone, so im just gonna go with the whole slp kit

if everything goes right............before spring i will have a full s and s headers with slp exhaust........i'm don't think my car with fit over the rollers on the dyno machine though...:lol::lol:

Ok, so its been a long time. But I finally put them on this weekend. I still can't drive the car yet because of a snag with the under car piping and a cat. But I figured I might as well show some of the progress...

And FINALLY, the (almost) FINISHED PRODUCT!!!

Wildman

So everything up top is done, but I thought I was going to cut and weld the old cat on there, but it was not to be. I have about 14" between my Borla, an the S&S flex pipe. So i'm going to have to have something custom made here for a cat. Shouldnt be too hard, I work at a parts store and can get a cheap universal cat, and have one of our muffler shop accounts weld it together for me. Then I just bolt it in, and weld it up, and then I finally get to test drive it!!!

Heres the undercar situation as of right now.....

looks excellent in the engine bay! Very nice looking indeed!

Wildman
01-18-2005, 01:12 AM
The engine is back together, but I am going to have to find some heat wrap material and wrap up a bunch of wires and harnesses and hoses etc. I ran the car for about 10 seconds just to make sure it would run, and the headers, just from that, were too hot to touch! so anything even remotely near those pipes is going to have to be protected. I may look into the TB heat shield on pfyc too cause its going to be a virtual hell under that hood.

On a side note, when I fired i up, I jumped a little bit because it fired up so loud and startled me (keep in mind, its straight headers to the flex, nothing else hooked up under there) but it was such a cool noise. Not something I would want to drive around with, but its not every day you hear a 6cyl thats booming loud like that. If you have done this with your car before, you know what I am talking about

Are you gonna use a cat???

Wildman
01-20-2005, 07:16 PM
Yeah, I got it put on yesterday. I'm still ironing out some minor problems. Had some ratteling issues and stuff, but its pretty much done. I used a Generic Universal cat from my work.

mike2002
01-20-2005, 07:51 PM
how loud is it with it hooked up to the exhaust, im doing magnaflow exhaust next, but i hope to get headers by the end of the year...but im afraid it will be to loud. ive heard if you install a highflow cat it gets really loud, i suppose you could always put a resonator in if its to loud

im jealous!

Wildman
01-20-2005, 09:50 PM
Well, I have a normal cat, not high flow. Also, I have a Borla cat back. The Borla is one of the quietest performance mufflers for us. So, all that considered, when I put on my headers, I did notice it just a little bit louder exhaust. Nothing major at all. But it also changed the tone a little bit too. A deeper tone now. But to answer your question, no it's not loud at all, but the Borla does have a resonator in it, so whatever you like, you can pretty much set it up how you want it to sound. I'll post some finished products pics later. But now I gotta save a little for a dyno run. Them i'm writing a review

would it be possible to put up some sound clips when you get a chance. I know it will probably be quieter being borla but i wanna compare the SS headers with the TOGs that I've heard on a SLP. thanks

Wildman
01-30-2005, 12:49 PM
Well, I dont have a sound clip right now, but it sounds close to what the Borla does before hand. Its a little deeper tone now and a little bit louder, but not much. The only thing that is good/bad is that with headers, the engine is actually quieter now(good) but I miss having the loud noise that would wail at 5000rpms that is not as loud anymore cause of the headers(bad :( )
