Painting Chrome Trim Black....

anyone ever paint the chrome trim that goes around the doors/windows black? im curious if this would work permanantly, and what you had to do....i would think sand the chrome, prime it, and spray it with some plastic paint, like krylon fusion.......

if anyone's done it, have any pics?

put black vynal on it.....way easier and cheaper than painting.....and it is not permanent....

is that a tape or somthing?

i bought "black out tape" from pepboys like 3 years ago for my last car and it started to peel after about 6 months

have an example? like a website that sells it? maybe the stuff i bought was just cheap, and going around corners and bends was a pain in the rear

any high-quality black vynal will do (usually the good vynal will last at least of couple years, they usually advertize it will last 7 years)....just go to any old speed shop or graphics place and tell them you want a sheet of black vynal.....get an exacto knife and cut away......

He means Vinyl...like stickers or decals you get from a sign store or something. :thumbsup:

Because the chrome looks cheesy with the gold theme I'm working on, I was really considering doing mine with vinyl....It'd be pretty easy to do, and ALOT faster than striping the tail lights.

I would never paint over it with some fizz-can paint. Mainly because when you go to get rid of the car, you're stuck with it, even if the paint's flaking off. If it's vinyl, just pick @ a corner, and wallah ! Black back to chrome in under 5 minutes. :thumbsup:

I covered the very small area of chrome between the vent visors on my front and back windows with vinyl about one year ago, and the black vinyl is still in perfect condition. No fading or peeling off :)
