i installed kyb gr-2's and springtech springs in all 4 corners last night, and i have a small problem

once in a while, when turning the wheel, i hear a clunk, or a snap... not everytime

anyone ever have this problem? it almost sounds like the spring is binding up, then releasing, its definatly comming from the front.

also, it seems like the car has a slight vibration when in drive but stopped, or going WOT, could this be due to the fact that i basically changed the geometry in which the transmission connects to the wheels through the cv's?

thanks for any input

Did you use all parts? Did you have a professional do it? do you have the car realined? are the spings slipping off the spring pockets on the struts? Did you install the stock rubber bottom and top insulators onto the KYB shocks and struts?

mine popped for about a month, never had a vibration problem, you do need to get it aligned though.

can you get it aligned before you drop it....a lot of reputable shops around here cant align a car with an altered suspension because its out of oem specs.....would it hurt to do it before, will the camber bolt kit help even just a little bit?

If you did it yourself, did you make sure the spring was seated properly? I think that is a common problem.

i did do it myself, i plan on aligning it on monday, it pull to the right

i made sure the rubbers on the bottom, and the coil touches the part that steps up, and everything were it "used to be" you can tell were the spring stopped on the top, is that what you mean by "seated properly"

jabartram, so your's popped, then stopped popping? its only popped like 3 times, ive driven like 4 hours, its always low speed

I have the same exact setup as you and mine popped for a couple of weeks after I put them on the car. They were just settling, now, no pops at all. As for the alignment, just about any shop should be able to do it. The point of the alignment is to get the geometry back to factory specs, which the shop I took it to was able to do.

the bearing plate is not seated correctly. jack the front of the car up and give the steering wheel a few full turns back and forth. it may work out by itself that way.

what happens is when the bearing plate isnt seated with the top mountint plate correctly it binds, not allowing the suspension to turn freely. this in turn makes the spring sort of stretch until enough pressure builds up and the spring sort of "pops" back into place making a pong or clunking sound as some call it.

I have the eibauchs and kybs with 18's on my car :smokin: , and because of the drop it was hard to find a place that 1)could drive my car up onto their hoist without bottoming out the front of the 'ho, & 2)have large enough clamps to hold the laser onto the outside of my rims! <_< Other then that it would be pointless to get an allignment before you drop your car, the new angle of the lower springs would cause your tires to sit inside heavy on the road, and the inside edge of the tires would wear much quicker because more pressure is ditributed here. You also may get vibrations like your tires weren't balanced.

Yeah I actually did what sound extreme talked about, but I didn't jack it up, I parked on level ground loosened all the top plate bolts and turned the wheels from steering stop to steering stop a few times, straightened them and tightened the bolts. did the trick!

i think you are talking about camber. and what you said isnt really true. there shouldnt be any negative camber with drop springs like that. if there is any it is MINIMAL(less than .5 of a degree negative). now what USUALLY happens is the alignment gets really messed up and usually end up pointed like / \ which will wear the insides of the tires also. it's like how they tell you to slow down while snow skiing, but it's your tires. so not good.

i also had no problem getting my car on almost any lift when i had eibachs. now with coilovers, only place i can get on is a flat drive on with a pit.

you should get a 4 wheel
