Clutch rod and clip

The clutch rod fell off the clutch pedal on my son's '02 Alero. It looks like a real bastard to get up in there. Do I need a new plastic clip to hold it in? I've found a rod/clip online for $26. What's the best way to tackle this?

Bought a new rod and plastic clip for $26.
Had the garage down the street put it in. All good now.
