New member here, but not new to owning an Alero.

We bought a 2000 Alero GLS new in 2000, and have been driving it ever since. I haven't done anything but maintenance to it, so just a boring stock Alero. Is has about 120k miles on it, so not a ton.

However, it is cursed. We have been rear ended about 5 times, had someone run a stop sign and I t-boned them (but was going slow enough that it only killed the plate frame and a few scratches on the bumper) had a hit and run in a parking lot where the front right fender got dented, and had someone destroy 2 of the doors breaking in to it to steal about $0.75 in change from the cup holder. Of the rear endings the car was totaled by the insurance 3 times. We loved the car so much that we had it repaired the first two, and now we are looking to replace it. (OK, not totally true, we are going to get it mostly fixed, I have most of the parts from PNP, and am just waiting on the frame rail end to take it in and get fixed.)

Here are some pictures from when it was new:

I've lusted after a 2004 Final 500 since they came out, and now may be the time to take the plunge.

Welcome! Wow, your car looks nice on this pics :) I can imagine it must have been a great feeling to pick it up from the dealer ;)

A Final 500 would be also very nice! Are there any differences between the final 500 and the regular aleros besides the special colour of the final 500?

Hi, and welcome aboard.

Yes Dynamix, there are quite some differences, mostly "cosmetic", though.
One of the most important I think, is that its a different leather for the seats, and this leather is perforated front- and rear-seats.

Darn, 5 times rearended, that sux. Why do beautiful cars always hat the hit?
(luckily mine looks like poop in the mean time)

Yeah, that was after we first got it, clay bared it and applied a few coats of Zaino, it sure did look nice.

Give it is 14 years old it still looks mighty nice, and I give a lot of that credit to the Zaino, even if we have been too lazy in recent years to bother.

Yeah, and it isn't like my brake lights were out, or I was making quick stops. Maybe they were just distracted by how nice it looked?

As previously stated the seats are different including the headrest which are hollowed out in the center. The door sill plates are different with a special laser engraved emblem. The wheels are 6 spoke without the notch in the spoke and Final 500 centercaps. Special badging on the outside. and a numbered badge in the drivers door jamb.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't sweat it about it being "cursed", some cars are just magnets for that sort of thing. I never understood why. My Grand Am was like that. That car was a cop magnet and an accident magnet. There was a time I was getting pulled over every day in that car and the police would simply harass me. I had 7 accidents with mine. One thing about these cars though is that they're hard bodies. It takes a pretty big hit to bend or dent them.

The sad thing is I miss that car. Wish I could get a black Alero or Grand Am coupe with the Ecotec... or maybe I might just spring for a 3400.
