I have a 2.4 99 Alero.. past month seems like i have had problems.. while at a red light and in drive the motor will surge and taking off it will hesitate like it wants to stall.. also in park you can rev the engine and lights will dim with low RPM like it wants to STALL. sometimes its fine but most of the time ie has a surging sputter.. Things ive replaced
Plugs
Fuel/Air filter
Clean throttle body
Clean air control sensor
I've read online guy with same car couldnt find out the problem he finally took to the dealer and it was a fuel pressure regulator.. but i dont have problems with it cranking or anything... and i dont believe its the Fuel pump car has 80k original miles..

Throttle position sensor? And go get your alternator and battery checked.

Most likely an alternator/battery issue. I know a guy filled me in that apparently based on your brand of battery, the ones that the Alero uses had some bad cells. My defected battery was only putting out 260 CCA out of 700. Or it just could be time for an alternator! It doesn't hurt to go to autozone and get them tested for free!

What..... Alt and battery will cause this are you serious? I had a oil Change not long ago they said the battery test was low or something but didn't think it would cause this problem how could it cause hesitation or surge tho and only when I take off?

Yes. A bad alternator can cause undervoltage to your fuel pump possibly and that will cause your car to run sluggish or maybe even stall.

Well went to auto zone.. Alt is good.. battery was BAD.. so i bought a 130 buck battery install it.. now my tempature gauge is stuck up in the high position and won't work and it didn't fix my problem.. im about out of money and ideas.

Sounds like some kind of electrical problem still. Some other guys who are more knowledgeable should post soon so dont give up yet.

Might sound silly, but check your map hose. It is hooked to a port on the lower part of the throttle body. On my friends 2.4l it was behaving similar and that was their problem.

He had a different thread about it and it was a hole in the map hose.
