Replaced the thermostat today and found I still have no heat (except for one time it overheated) and the car still runs hot/ occasionally overheats to point of unoperation. The new thermostat seems to have slightly helped the problem with the overheating but it still coughs up coolant. The heater core makes funny noises every now and then, sounds like little amounts of fluid shooting though, trying to work a clog maybe? LIMG is in bad shape I know, what can I do to at least get some heat?!

Dude....if the LIMG is in bad shape then that's the issue....get it fixed....you're prob messing the engine up pretty bad when you keep running it like that. You will cause more problems not fixing it.....i know when mine had those problems it was the HG's.

I'm not spending the money or time required for the LIMG on this one. only needs to last another month or two. I mostly just need some heat right now.

he is saying you won't get heat without fixing the gasket...if you want heat you fix the gasket, if you don't want to fix the gasket you go without heat

If you don't want to fix the limg get a portable heater and power inverter and plug it into the cig lighter... only way.to get heat in that car!!

I have seen 12v heaters at the store that are just as cheap as the others and don't require the inverter

it's probably low on coolant first of all. Secondly, the heater core or one of the hoses is probably bad. I've had both of these things screw me for heat on other cars. (cheap fix)

Also, if you're not going to fix the LIMG, just put some head gasket stop leak crap in and thicker oil, but I guarantee if you're running it hot already you're not going to be able to get that $100 out of the motor anymore. It's worth doing the $400 repair to resale the car when you're done. If it's still running I'm sure you can get your money back.

It's supposed to warm up this weekend! Can't you just tough it out a couple of more days? Wearing a coat has got to be the easiest short term fix!!!

I was considering doing that! @sleepy, the new alero. Im just waiting on the title for the GTO then its getting traded in for the 5 speed. this is a parts car and temporary beater only.
