Greetings Alero people...I come in peace. :Hi:

I recently picked up a '99 GL coupe project to commute with...while I park my '99 GX coupe later this summer to have it gone over (I seem to have bumped some lady's posterior with it; no major damage except for the airbags going off and CRACKING MY WINDSHIELD  ...

Given these circumstances, I thought this would be a good time to participate in this forum...

I have had a number of vehicles over the years; I'm mainly a GM guy...
'72 Caprice, '76 Pinto SW, two Chevettes, four GM J-bodys (I liked these), a Chevy C1500 P/U, the two Aleros and a '90s Tracker.

I have lurked for awhile (and learned a lot in the process); perhaps I can give something back with my upcoming work...

thanks for reading - type at 'cha later... :awesome:

Welcome! Usually the air bags don't go off unless it's a BIG hit. There might be more damage if you take it apart....but hey....if it drives straight and there it doesn't affect anything then who cares. lol. This is a great site with some great people, hope you stick around!

Welcome to the forum. It's about time you had an account hahahah

You'll be served good here. You already know what goes down, so yeah, it's a nice place to post about the N Body.

Thanks people...

Attached are pics of the warhorse, complete with battle (and age) scars...
It still drives good... :drive: I drove two hours out with it to check out the one I just got.

It was embarassing driving back home after the wreck...black pieces of the bumper shock material were falling out every so often.

Hmmm, hopefully you just have front end frame damage. Looks like you may have bent the brackets where the bumper bar goes, and possibly the metal bar behind that.

That front ends is jacked up....new mounting brackets, new bumper, new bumper cover...the headlight mounting panel is prob broken....and def some bent pieces behind the cover.

>>>Oh my rust......lol....aluminum foil FTW!

The aluminum tape is actually sticky on one side, it's used for stovepipe joints and such.
Initially I was using it to try to keep road crap out of it, but...you see how far that got.
I'll start a thread later regarding the rust...

Under the hood it looks pretty good...there is a small bend at the front of the hood, but otherwise the metal looks OK. It appears all the broken stuff was the black energy adsorber stuff. All the lights work even... Horns are OK too. (ok...i had to install a crude horn switch since the airbag deploy broke the pressure plate connection in the center)

I think the corner impact forces pushed the plastic lower shirt back far enough where it pulled out from the fender bolts...
When it warms up some, I'll drop the fender skirt, screw the fender bolts out, reinstall with some large body washers and all should be well. (I'll just have to remember to not take any more hits there...:rolleyes2: )

That is about what mine looked like when it was wrecked in december of 2003 (it was produced in may, that whole being new thing didn't last long) there was quite a bit of work that had to be done though and the front had to be pulled a little bit...It was a pretty expensive job but I don't believe it has a salvage title because it was still worth about 18-20k at the time

Here is the project, such as it is...

Picked it up for $800. It needs the following:
- Front hubs (they sound NASTY)
- either a tuneup or a coil pack (misses when cold).
- Front tires (they are practically BALD)
Funny...the rears are practically NEW. (Why would anyone do this? :wtf2:)
- factory CD radio is dead
- dirty nasty interior (mostly surface dirt)
- spoiler needs paint
- minor rust behind the doors

Gonna start with SKF hubs and aftermarket rotors and pads. I am sure there will be more to come...

Not too bad...has it been wrecked before, asking because the gap between the hood and the fender looks big, maybe it is just the picture, as to the tires are they matching or not, maybe they were replaced at the same time and the previous owner would spin out a lot and didn't rotate tires

It does not appear to have been wrecked (hood was open)...
All the tires match...
The wear looks consistent (no alignment issues).

Hopefully I picked a good candidate for a refurb. :coolio:
