Hi, I was wondering have any of you used/ known people who have used Alerospeed.com(doctorspeed) or American Performance of Colorado for a CAI? I'm trying to decide which company is higher qaulity or and better service(shipping time), warranty, ect?I know i saw a bad post about Amercian on automotive.com fourums, relating to never recieving the CAI? Any information or tips on putting a CAI in would be nice too. Also, do any of you know of any other manufacturers/sites that sell CAI's for Alero with no cutting/welding involved? (i've been to alero.org)? Thanks ;)
P.S. I don't plan on racing my 99AleroGLs for a while(but you never know what i might decide in the future), should i still consider a CAI? Does a CAI improve gas mileage and does it have a better sound than the WAI? In adittion, can someone tell me the benifits of a WAI over a CAI besides less chnance of ran/snow damage.

you could also make a CAI out of a civic intake for way cheaper than those two......but both of those intakes are highquality, also i believe naich is still selling his own ones?

CAI may give you .0000003254 seconds shorter 1/4 time, lol. But WAI is safer. If u drive ur car in rain and snow I recomend a WAI. I bought Dr. Speeds CAI...recieved it promptly. I did have a small fitment issue, so I emailed him with pix and he sent me an all new set of piping for free...no questions asked. With the new set of piping I modified the setup for an awesome fit and have had no problems. I dont pay attention to gas mileage, but Im assuming it will be better. But the gains in fuel ecconomy will prolly be very slim. I've heard many horror stories on the apoc, so make sure u email them first and check to see when it could be shipped.

I've heard that APOC CAI's are on back order as well, so i would check with john before ordering..I have the dr. speed, I haven't noticed any change in gas mileage only a cahnge in the roar of my engine. I have the dr. speed one, recieved it in about 3 weeks and put it in within an hour...the directions are barney level so trhey're very easy to understand...that would get my vote

Ok Brenna, here's the cheap set-up. This benefits both your wallet AND the site. ( plus if you add some extra cash, you can get a VIP membership aswell, hint-hint )
Naich has both WAI and CAI kits for sale, although both are on hold til he gets back from his honeymoon.
The product review for the CAI:

Info on purchasing the WAI:

***If you're interested in either Intake kit, these prices are DIRT cheap, and offer top-notch quality IMO.***
Good Luck Brenna

I've got the Doctorspeed CAI in my car, and I've never had any problems with it. I personally perfer it over a WAI. Whatever you decide on though, I can put it in for you if you don't feel too comfortable with it.

:D Thanks Smokin, i might take you up on that. Though it will probabley be a while before i decide and will be able to get a CIA or WIA on, as I have to also pay for a rear bumper for my car, as the current one was cracked when i bought it. ;) Plus, I'm gonna probabley switch to stock around the winter months. Does doctorspeed include a "rain coat" for the filter in the kit?

Not a problem. Hell, to be honest, I'd rather enjoy doing it. I'd love to hear what it sounds like before the engine adjusts to it. Right after you put it in, it's loud, really loud.
As for the MPG thing, I got about 35 more miles per tank after I put in my intake. Which was nice. Going to suck this friday though, because I'll have to start running premium gas only. <_<
Oh well, having Missouri's fastest Alero comes at a price. :o

Missouri's fastest Alero, until I come to visit my family there! Ha Ha. JK. I would recommend a CAI, no matter who you buy it from. I wouldn't worry about water. I live in Florida, and it rains all of the time. I've never had a problem with it. The filter does get wet, and some water does make it into the piping, but has yet to make it to the engine. Believe me, I've opened up the intake after driving through the rain, and it has never made it past the first bend in the piping.

Wont a wet filter restrict the air coming in?

APOC and Doctor Speed's intakes are the same intake I believe
As for a CAI giving a slight adv. in the 1/4 mile is BS. My personal expecience is gives me about a .4 second gain in the 1/4. If you buy the Dr speed CAI, you can make a WAI out of it very easy, just losen the clamps and turn the elbow pipe and stick a filter on it. You will need a smaller filter due to the location (right behind the battery). I do it all the time now before I go to the track.
If you're not going to be racing your car, stick with WAI

As far as the APOC CAI goes... you might REALLY want to be sure about when John will send it out. I paid for mine at the end of November last year, and am still waiting on getting it. He says that it should be here by October, but I'm getting to the point that I won't hold my breath.

Yeah, I am sure it will restrict breathing, but I haven't noticed a difference just driving around town in the rain. I don't floor it in the rain, so I don't know if it affects WOT or not.

Thanks to everybody for replying so quickly and giving really great feedback. I think I am probabley going to go with the doctorspeed CIA and just to be safe about water damage, i'll run a stock air intake during the winter, when the snow and sleet arrive.
Also, Can some people tell me how a WAI and CAI sound different(lower/higher, louder...ect.) :D
*Does anyone know where I can get a used (good condition) alero rear bumper? Mine was cracked from bottom to top in the the corner when i bought the car and I think I really should do something about that before i get a CAI.
