red spark plug wire is just temporary... the red wires you see in the clutch picture are being ripped out today. and the clutch peddle is missing a boot on it. (why it looks kinda bad) but idc its gonna be used alot so really dont care for 100% perfection on that. lol

mfuller

The axle ratio is 3.55:1.

sleepyalero
09-30-2012, 06:21 PM
matt, jawa is jokin sayin they arent manuals. fyi matt got his done at MMS as well.

they drive quite nice. trannys are a little noisy. and alot of vibration because of his really stiff mounts. aside from that it performs very well.

and yes, i am 2/2 6 speed 3400's. matt is 1/2. :p the secret is revealed!

Did Mike have issues with your axles? This pic has me worried about the height of the output on the trans, the other makes it look like the engine sits in front of the hubs rather than inline. Is the stock setup like this? I am an engine guy, not an axle geometry expert.

Cool to see some manual N bodies. I love my 5 speed grand prix:)

Ben:
I had to shorten the drivers-side axle to keep it from binding with the diff when the car got aligned. It drives fine now. That picture was taken on jackstands, so the suspension is at full droop. Everything is aligned correctly at ride height.

the swap is really down to the last wire. everything works as if the car was made from factory with this transmission. have to push in clutch to start car, and once put in reverse the reverse lights come on.

Mike from MMS did take some time on the car... but he did an AWESOME job, i honestly couldnt be happier with this swap.

Edit: Congrats Two0123 and Matt on AOTM.

Thanks for the compliments on the sound; I'm pretty happy with it.
Milzy's headers made it quite a bit louder, so I ditched the SLP/Magnaflow setup for a Borla cat-back. I still run a catalytic converter also.
I'd like to hear Nathan's setup; I've never heard the full Pacesetter system.

mfuller
10-01-2012, 09:44 PM
I have been playing around with the tune and that's why the idle was so high.
That problem has been rectified and it idles around the commanded idle of 800rpm - which is a bit higher than stock due to my cam.

colonel6632
10-01-2012, 10:47 PM

I want your garage. You know how much kid crap I have to shuffle around to get Angel in for an oil change? lol

haha i love my garage, but technically its a barn. but used as a garage. :) its like a 60x40-60x50. plenty of room for almost anything. you only see a 1/3 of the barn in those pics lol, behind me theres about another 15 or so feet then got two giant tractors sitting on the other side.

looks awesome? is it always idle around 1200? that seems really high

cold start its around 1900 rpm for me, but it only sits there for about... 4-6 seconds then comes down, then goes down to about 800-900 warm, idles as it did before with the auto.

I was the first one on here to get the pacesetter cat back....loved it....sounded great but was a little too loud for me. I went with borla after the pacesetter rusted out on me. S&s Headers, not cat to a borla...love the sound :)

haha idk why everyone says its to loud. i mean yeah it seems to sound louder then borla (which is a suprise) but i would choose the pacesetter over anything, everyone just has that certain exhaust tone they like with there cars lol.

Side note: I plan on getting a few more pictures tomorrow of some things, i was under the car today changing a oil pressure sensor for my gauge, installing the o2 sensor for my AEM wideband. and removing the underglow on my car, never going back to that. did some gauge rewiring... yet still the gauges dont wanna work, they have power, they just dont read for some reason, cant figure out why... think it might just be the gauges itself. :( the wideband works fine, just my volts gauge doesnt really want to read, nor does the oil press gauge, even though i just put a new oil pressure sensor in today for it... and ran a new ground wire for it too. hmmm.....

man let me tell you... there is SO much room now at the bottom back of the motor, i can actually put my head up to the rear header. ill have to get pictures of that tomorrow as well as one of my sweet ass powdercoated blue mounts i was checking out today back there.

you know now that i know the car more. the car never did go into first. when we did the test run i was starting in third... i found out on the way home the car wouldnt go into first gear. i dicussed with matt about the problem and we landed on the idea that i needed to adjust the shift cablen shortly after. but i couldnt for a little bit so i had to start out in second from a stop. but about 2-3 days ago, i was at my dads and i tried to go into first with the car off, it did, but wouldnt when it was on. so after a couple stop lights on my way home from dads, i'd try to go into first, and it finally starting poppin in. but before that i fiddle with it and tried to get into first, it just wouldnt go. idk why. but it works fine now, no problems since. and consider to call me an idiot, but you or mike also didnt realize i was starting in 3rd on take off. its unfortunate it happened like that.. but you live and learn....

yeah it acts as a manual but its still auto. r is reverse, 1 is park, 2 is neutral, 3 is drive, 4 is 1, 5 is 2, and 6 is 3, you just hold the brake and put it in one of those gears and it acts as the auto should, no need to shift, cause its an automatic. still gotta re-label the shifter so im not all confused. ;)

nah.... mfuller and manwhore can totally vouch for me. but i should have a video up within the next week or two.

if you go through Mike, hes a nice guy and does great work, just keep in mind you might have a little wait like me and Matt did. but you wont be disapointed.

Yup, on street tune I run 6600 rpm shift points from 1-2 and 2-3, at the track it's 7-7200.. Keep it to 6600 or less though to be safe guys. I'm a little crazy and was willing to deal the consequences of of things going bad... LOL

And I too am very jealous of your swaps... interior looks right, really right... kudos to you both!!!

thanks, glad you like it. :) its quite fun. ive got about 700 miles on the transmission so far.

ok, this is fantastic that your showing pics and videos. but i do not recall anywhere you actually describing how it feels to have a v6 n-body with a manual...

oh im so so sorry, its actually very fun, and quite a bit faster then with the 4t45e that used to be there..... theres really only two downsides to this swap... 1. there is quite more vibration, but with the mounts he made and the bushing he used (which are far more stiff then poly bushing) it can be a little of an annoyance. but its seemed to quiet down some and ive pretty much gotten used to it, so its not a big deal to me. 2nd... the transmission likes to chatter a bit. but its pretty normal for these, and isnt hurting anything. its just a tad noisy at times... but other then that its fantastic, ive got about 1000 miles on it so far. and it still works great. mike did a swell job on this and its very exciting to own 2/2 3.4L 6 speed alero... :) and i CANT WAIT to go to ass next year with it. im really looking forward to it.

Maybe it's just the angle of the picture, but I'd be worried about the fuel lines being so close to your exhaust crossover. I'll have to check mine when I get home.
Otherwise, looks and sounds great!

Any noticeable differences in gas mileage?

I have averaged over 29MPG with the 3000 miles I've put on mine.
Considering that I'm generating ~70HP over stock, I don't think that's too bad.
With my old 4T45-E, average fuel economy was closer to 27MPG.

mines give or take with the egr and no cat and how much im in it lol.

ill have to see how far away it is today, although ive had these headers for a year and a half or so, and its always been sitting right there. still will check and let you guys know

how are u making more power

xXManwhoreXx

Not making more power, it just feels more powerful the shorter gears make it accelerate faster.

Who was that directed towards?

sleepyalero

probably me, because i said in a previous comment that the car seems a little faster then with the auto that was there.

but i could be wrong.

id agree with erics statement too. yet there probably was a small gain in power with the tuning mike did. bur not sure.. someone needs to send me hpt so i can tune the car....... i wonder who...

theres more torque and a lot less "slip" with the manual over the auto.
