I wanna take out my resonator, so i figure i can run a straight pipe from the cat back, or i can run the pipe from the cat back to an aftermarket muffler.

what do you guys think? let me know ideas and different mufflers

I'm running without resonator and using a SLP Loudmouth Muffler. I like it but it is kinda loud. Here's a vid at the track WOT... keep in mind though, those are 7200rpm shifts you are hearing there

I'm so used to it that I think its fine. Then I'm driving the Jetta TDI most of the time now in winter. I take mine to go grab a coffee or a short cruise when its nice out and it kicks me in the face how loud it really is...lol

If it's your daily driver, the novelty of a loud exhaust wears off pretty quick.
Not to mention that it'll draw the attention (and ire) of law enforcement.

I've got a straight pipe....intake, headers, no cat, borla exhaust....its got a nice rumble....the borla is a little quieter than most exhausts. Its my DD and im used to the nice rumble i have :)

my open downpipe fun wears off by the 3rd day

then i just cannot stand being so fucking loud. i like being swift and silent (or getting loud only when you're actually hauling ass)

We are assuming your car drowns out the other car? :p

That sounds very good

i have 80 series with 2.5 inch exhaust and it sounds great.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EKY4UpLkBY don't mind the music and orange intake manifold :glare: it has been re painted black.

I would not run a open exhaust. I did it for about 2 years. I now run 2.5" with no resonator and a SLP muffler and like it a lot better. It is quieter but I like the sound it produces and the car seems to run better that way. The open exhaust sound gets really old and nothing beats the sound of a real exhaust setup.

I just went through this. No resonator in 2.5" pipe, high flow cat, headers with pacesetter setup. The engine drone will drive you insane!

Now I have a magnaflow setup with pacesetter headers: magnaflow high flow cat, resonator and muffler (dual out). It sounds great.
