View Full Version : Weird vibration noise

I can't quite figure out what this is. I can start noticing it around 30 mph as a low hum and starts to get more high pitched as I gain speed up to 70 mph. It's not the road I'm on since it happens everywhere. I have basically brand new tires and they're not under-inflated. It seems to be coming from the front driver-side wheel. Also of note, it makes more noise when turning at those speeds.

I was at about 70, then slowed to about 55, then sped back up to 70. Ignore the sideways shot, as it was just intended to get the sound.

Anyone have any idea what this could be???

I would wait for someone else to respond but I am gonna have to guess wheel bearing so you are gonna need a new hub

does it also make grinding sound also. because when my wheel bearings went i started to have a grinding sound and the abs and trac off light would come on.

let me guess, this only started happening when you got new tires

I vote for the Bearing...

sounds like a hub to me. if you swerve left and right (putting more weight on one bearing and then the other) should drasticly change the noise.

No, I've had these tires since September.

Yeah, the sound definitely intensifies.

Thanks guys, I bought a new hub assembly yesterday. Will put it on when I have some time this weekend. Does anyone recommend I rent a hub puller?

So I replaced the hub yesterday, but it still makes the dang noise!! Could it be the CV joint? I had an older integra before that I had to replace the CV joint on bc it would go click click click when I turned.

which hub did you replace?

Sounds odd.

Something to check, alignment too. My car was way out of alignment and the tires made a strange noise similar to that, except only at about 50mph. Once it was aligned, the noise went away pretty much.

Front driver. I'm almost positive that's where the sound was coming from. it wouldn't make sense for the back to be bad since it gets more intense when I turn. I might try and do the other side later, probably needs it anyway.

Yea I should get it checked out. I didn't want to do it til I got it lowered, but I might have to.

one way to find out if its the tires is to rotate the tires front to back. if the noise changes and moves with the tires then its the tires.

usually if its a bearing and you make a left hand turn (turning left) and the noise gets louder then its the right bearing bad. if you make a right turn and the noise gets louder its typically the left bearing. when you lift the vihicle grab the wheel and 6 and 12 and npush in and out alternating top and bottom, if you have play its your bearing. at work iv also run vehicles on the lifts and had somone walk around it to found out which side the noise is coiming from.

yea, when i turn right, it makes more noise. and I checked the 6 and 12 thing on the original bearing and it had a very slight amount of play. I will change the tires front to back possibly tomorrow and see. Thanks for all your insight.

Replace the other hub.

Also beware of those cheap ass hubs though

Replaced the culprit last night. Passenger side was all sorts of effed up. When I finally got the thing off, the back side of the hub was broken off, and I could actually see the bearings.

Thanks again everyone for all the help. Now the only vibration is from my sub :)
