Got a call from my buddy again on his way home from work. He had no heat, at all, even with the engine at running/overheated temp. Because if he leaves the heat on, engine temp shoots all the way up, with it off, runs perfectly fine. I'm thinking heater core. Flush should do it right?

A buddy of mine had a similar problem on a 99 2.0 Eclipse. We changed the thermostat, no luck. Then flushed the heater core, some luck with slightly warmer heat, but high temps. Ended up being the head gasket... Idk about your buddy's prob, seeing that his temp shoots up with the heat on because the heat makes the fan turn on which will cool the engine slightly... Good luck!

What motor? Sounds like a headgasket though.

Does not sound like a heater core, engine temperature should drop a little with heat on, not go up.

would this be the same friend that the site diagnosed as having a bad head gasket before?
EDIT: This would be the thread that I am referring to : http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35064

Seeing as I was looking under new posts I didn't notice it was under the 3.4 section.

I would say headgasket. Even if it was the heater core clogged up a flush wouldn't fix it.
