Weird Noise At Startup

Hello all,

Recently when I start up my car I hear a weird clinking noise. When I went for my oil change this week..the guy said that it was my power steering and that if I did a flush and bought some power stearing conditioner the problem would go away. My question to ya'll is this... How could buddy decipher that the issue was my power steering if all he did was check to see if the fluid was full (which it was) and how can flushing the fluid and adding an additive fix the issue.

I'm guessing his diagnosis comes from him looking at the price list of what the perticular shop offered...and that was the most expensive thing on the menu, therefore...it is what is wrong with your car

I get a noise like that too, but it is my CAI rubbing a bracket.

The miracle diagnosis just doesn't make sense. I think he was really trying to scam you.

Yeah it's a complete scam... they always try and sale you extra services! If it's a knocking and your oil is not low then it could be your lifters... I had this problem, but they sell this oil additive at Autozone or online it's called Alemite CD-2 costs like $3 and you just add it to the oil. one bottle replaces one quart. :thumbsup:

Your power steering pump would wine if somehting was wrong. you said you hear a thump when you just start it? I had a cutlass ciera with the 3100 sfi engine my engine thumped when I started it I thought it was the trans or something but guess what it was :D the exhaust pipe hitting the floor baords when I started my car up and when I took off hard. It was a free fix I had my mechanic bend the pipe down then it was all better.
