this is my first how-to i believe so bare with me lol...
alright well i found out this stuff in a previous thread and figured i give it a try, and i really like how it turned out and its very simple to do, you can paint your whole car with the stuff and it will peel right off! its pretty durable and ive seen some people that have had it on for years with no problems, and if something does happen... you can easily redo it.
anyway..... off to the how-to. this stuff comes in blue, red, black (looks more like a flat black once dry), clear, white, and yellow.
you can get this stuff at Home Depot, Ace hardware, Do it best, Harbor freight tools, menards, napa, true value, and a couple of other places, i got mine at home depot and it was $5.98 for a can of it and covers 10 feet.
the can looks like this..
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/15fa43c2-2091-421f-a480-937058c81a7b_300.jpg
whatever you plasti dip is totally up to you, just make sure you clean it first and make sure its dry. also there is no sanding involved! and if you dont like it you can just take it off and redo it with no hassle. from what i have read, it holds through car washes and all that so i dont think you will have problems.
1st step is to mask off the badge you want to paint.. you dont even have to remove the badge to paint it! i love this stuff lol.
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/16ff4560.jpg
leave a square around it, its okay if it gets on the paint around the badge, because it will come right off!
after you have done that, do two passes with the can, lightly spray the badge on one pass and lightly spray it with another pass, and let it sit for 5 mins. it should look like this with two passes.
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/e751a4ec.jpg
after 5 mins put a nice coat on the badge. and then wait 15 mins....
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/21081238.jpg
after 15 mins put a second coat on and let it sit for 1 hour. or longer if you want. and if you want to do a third coat you can do that to, just make sure you let it dry for an hour or more. once its complete it will look like this...
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/ccca188b.jpg
i forgot to take a picture of me pulling off the stuff on the paint, but i took a pic of the front badge, of me pulling it off around it. this is what it looks like after all the tape is removed on the bumper. notice it is on the paint. but i can pull it off and its perfect cut off all the way around the badge.
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/8e6b2968.jpg

http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/b203664d.jpg
now make a notch in with what you think is safe, i just used my nail and was careful not to scratch the paint.
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/2be30bc5.jpg
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/6ec61ff5.jpg
http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/natesalero/afe6f044.jpg
and you're done! very simple and i love it. now on to the next thing... i painted one of my rims that will be used in the winter and compared before and after... when i looked at it after it dried... it blew my mind! i was very impressed! i love the look of it. on to the pictures!

I'm doing this to my scoot once I get it back from the shop tomorrow! I was wondering what the wheels would look like if the rims had some yellow on them. :)

I forgot to ask up there, did you have to take a knife around the badges or did it just peel right and leave just the badge dipped?

I doubt it would look very good on stockers, would probably just make them look even smaller than they are...If I wasnt debadged I would plastidip them though

nope, it all makes an even cut off on the badge when you pull off the extra stuff around the badge and whats on your paint.
notice these three pictures, i just pulled it off with my hand and it cut evenly it self all the way around.

We have a Lowes... I might stop in there and see if it's there.... The yellow isn't in spray can form... It's in a metal can that you dip the tools into (since that's what it's originally designed for).

10-22-2011, 02:46 PM
ahh that sucks cavs! maybe amazon or something will have it in spray form?
billy i found it at the paint section where you get paint for a house like for the walls and stuff.

So i found it at the home depot for about $6.
I love this stuff. you can literally not cover anything and just spray away. Then when your done just wipe it away.
All my badges on the back are off so i did the front.

I like it as well! Looks really good
Wow that looks better jackel...
Gracias! I have to re-do the bumper in the spring and probably the wheels too. I was not doing thick enough coats so it got a little textured.
Doing my stock wheels is exsactly what I was thinking. And I deffinatly like the badges. I want to see how they'll look against a white car.
so, i just got around to seeing this thread, did you ever do your stock rims? i wanna kno how it turned out... i've got a white lero so i'm very eager to see what it looks like.... or do you kno of anyone that has done this to white lero with stockers????
I like it, just wonder how long it is going to last. Getting a tuneup and cai today.
How long did yours last?

Plasti dipped the scoop and blacked out the area under it. It definitely does NOT suck as bad as it did lol

I kinda agree with sleepy...I have test driven a coupe and find the interior a little more awkward, the biggest thing is that the door is too big

I like coupes..sometimes I want one but the quarter panel is way to big and empty..I like 4 doors better most of the time..

i've owned both and since I have two other vehicles for the family, the coupe is way more sexy.

to me the setup feels slightly different...mainly in reference to the door, the door handle is farther back, the door arm rest is a little different...as far as ride quality and feel in that aspect I would agree it is the same

03-27-2013, 03:34 PM
i didnt really notice any of that lol

Only valid point I've seen here was that the coupe has bigger doors other than that its just been ppl trying to reason why whatever they have is better.

03-28-2013, 10:11 AM
i dont think a coupe is better then a 4 door and i dont think a 4 door is better then a coupe. if i had a coupe im sure id love it just as much, but i own a 4 door and never have thought about switching over to a coupe.

I would like to fully build an ecotec at some point and that car will be a coupe partly because the coupe starts out 50 lbs lighter and it will have essentially one purpose which elliminates the benefit of rear doors,it also seems to me that it would possibly be a little easier to cage the coupe...If I got a good deal on a coupe I would get one but I would definately not go out of my way to find one as I genuinely do like the 4 doors better, it is more convenient when you have people with you and other stuff...I also think the interiors of the 4 doors look better, while I could agree that the coupe looks more sleek on the outside...For me the benefits of the 4 door outweigh anything for the coupe
sleepyalero
03-28-2013, 10:46 AM
just do what i did, remove back seats, only two front seats are now useable. boom its a coupe and 4 door combined!
03glgold
03-28-2013, 10:51 AM
nope...I actually have passengers a decent amount of the time, and would rather have the back seat...I don't want a coupe unless that is what best fits when I next buy one...I understand your reasoning because of drunk annoying people, but I have people ride in my car a decent amount of the time who aren't drunk or annoying

i just hate having 4 people in the car especially smokers, worried about the back getting burnt up lol

I like them, better contrast, see it from all angles....especially on the white background. Normally I like stock-style emblems and variations, but those look good.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking the door handles next. Just the handle itself, not the whole assembly.

X2 especially one a white car. I cant stand the gold ones even though they are 'better' (for the gold series) I prefer all my badges to be chrome however...
